Help PLEASE. my htc hero has been reset..

I bought a HTC HERO on orange from a friend and dont have the sim anymore. I restored factory settings and now it wants a sim. I have an 02 sim and it asks for a sim unlock pin. I cant sync it to my laptop as I cant get passed the enter sim screen. What can I do? I have been searching the web for ages and found nothing : ( please help me smart smartphone dudes

To use it as a phone you'll either have to (a) buy an unlock code, (b) use an Orange PAYG SIM, or (c) stick the O2 SIM in a RebelSIM adapter.

However, it will boot with no SIM and simply complain about "No service". If you have wifi nearby it will even operate happily on that while SIM-less - I've been doing that with my own.
