Anyone switch to Eris from Droid?

I had to return/swap my Droid today because the slider for the keyboard essentially broke and the phone wouldn't stay shut and wobbled badly. I've also gotten to where I RARELY use the physical keyboard, so the Eris' keyboard that I played with today was more "accurate" for me.

Also, I REALLY liked the sleekness of the Eris and the cases were much nicer (IMO).

But the screen on the Droid beats the Eris' hands down. Also, the Droid does have 2.0, but while I was at the Verizon store a regional manager was there (and saw me struggling with my decision of whether to switch from Moto's Droid to the HTC Eris) and he told me they (Verizon) are actually planning to push the 2.0 update next week (to help with Christmas sales) instead of in January... This may have been "salesmanship" on his part, but everyone seems to be convinced the 2.0 push will come at some point. Also, the Eris does have the directions, just not the "navigation," but I have a GPS unit in my car anyway...

Basically, I'm strongly considering the jump, but would really like to hear from any Eris user who switched FROM Droid and what their likes/dislikes are or if they have any regrets...

I just can't get used to the numerous steps it takes to launch my call log on the Droid (and on the Eris, you hit the physical "send" button just like on any other cell phone) and the bulk of it. The "hand feel" of the Eris was great, and they have a clamshell case that was right up my alley on how I used to carry my BB Pearl. I like to carry my phone in a front pocket, clipped upside down - if that makes since, and the Eris has a case that is sleek and allows the phone to be slid right out. The Droid has the same case by the same maker, but it just adds even more bulk to the phone and made it quite uncomfortable (I tried a Verizon worker's Eris and my Droid in the same case today for comparison).

Again, just totally on the fence. If I make the trade I don't want huge regrets. Yes, I know I'll be giving SOME things up, but I'll also be getting some gains. But if you traded your Droid for and Eris, and have major regrets, I'd really like to hear why.

I switched from Moto Droid to the Eris. I like the Eris b/c it fits into my pocket nicely. I originally wanted the Motorola for the keyboard, but found it more of an annoyance. The Eris does everything I need it to, and once the updates come in the 1st quarter of 2010, it won't be much different from the Moto Droid.

Because my Moto Droid was malfunctioning, they switched out my phone for the Eris and gave me the $100 difference as a credit. Not only that, but the Verizon rep allowed me to keep the 16 gig sd card that originally came in the Motorola!

I didn't switch "from" the droid to the Eris, but I did go into the store with the intention of buying the Droid after reading all of the reviews. However, I found it to be too bulky for my tastes (I come from RAZR2, which I chose strictly because of it's profile). I like to keep my phone in the "5th pocket" of jeans, and the Droid just wasn't working. It fit, but it sticks out a bit more than I like. I also hated how the keyboard felt, and decided I'd probably never use it anyway, so I started looking at the Eris. The Eris just felt perfect in my hands, and I love how sleek it looks and feels.

Now, I know the Droid has a faster CPU, more memory, and a larger screen... but aside from that, what else is the Eris missing? A camera flash? That's about all I can think of. Eris will be getting 2.0, updated with SenseUI, and that was what pushed me over the fence into buying it.

Do I wish I had a faster CPU and a larger screen? Sure. But I wouldn't give up the form factor of the Eris to have it. It's just too perfect. If they kept this same shell and upgraded the innards, I'd take it in a heartbeat

The Droid was faster. Less lag.

I initially bought the Droid, but after coming from an iphone it just wasn't working for me. Too bulky and just too blah. Seemed like in a hardware generation or two it would be awesome. I decided I'd try the Eris, and then probably bring that back too, but I love it. The form factor is one thing, but the sense UI makes all the difference. It is definitly what was missing with the Droid. Everything about it just seems smoother and has more polish. The only drawback I can find to the phone is the battery life. But hopefully with updates that will get better.

I made the switch from Droid to Eris, and it was the best move for me. I like the ease of use, multiple screens (7), very slim form factor and so many other things. As for calling friends & family, i placed a "Person Icon" on the screen for one touch calling. The main thing to remember is that everyone's thought on which phone is better, is going to differ on personal choice.

switched from moto droid to eris after 2 week trial. moto was a brick. slide out keyboard a joke. touch screen keyboard lousy too. the eris touch screen is much better at getting the words correct. i'm happy. my wallet is happy too.

I never bought the Droid, but I definitely went into the store convinced that I would buy it. I immediately decided it was too clunky, but I really wanted voice GPS or VZ Navigator.

I left the store and thought about it for 2 days and bought the Eris. I like the track ball much better than the D pad. I am hoping for 2.0 and voice GPS, soon.

Same here. I had the Moto Droid & found it was far too bulky for me. Eris fits nicely into. My pocket & better for one handed use. Eris will be a perfect fit for me after the 1st quarter update.

I went to the Verizon store seriously considering the Moto Droid but the on screen keyboard blew. I really liked the one on the Eris, though.

My main gripe about the Eris, and I havn't figured out a way around this, is that the vibrate function is incredibly weak. I can't tell my phone is ringing unless my hand is sitting on TOP of my pocket....I'm thinking about exchanging the Eris for the Droid at this point, because if I can't tell I'm getting phone calls, whats the point? And no, i can't use the ringer because I work in a quiet space....

Had the Motorola for a week. It was OK, but didn't really like the form factor. Never used the keyboard.

When I was at the Verizon store, I played with both and let the fact that the Motorola had a faster processor and better screen influence my decision. But my eye kept going over to the HTC. Then my hands. It felt right. But, I purchased the Motorola. It was fast and all, but I kept thinking of the HTC. I like the physical buttons for send and end. I like the track ball. It felt right in my hands. The Motorola was the wrong choice for me, I had to dump it. The HTC was calling to me. I had to answer it. And answer it I did.

Form factor was the big seller for me. I don't miss the Motorola at all.

Now I just need the update to Android 2.1

Agreed! I wanted the Moto bad until I actually had it in my hands. Too bulky. Didn't like the slide. I had an HTC touch with Sprint so I was familiar with the company. I liked it with the exception of the Windows OS so I knew I would like this phone. I like it and after the update I will love it!

I bought the Droid because I wanted the text to speech feature for navigation. I had it for one day but it was just to uncomfortable to hold or carry. Then I read that the eris was getting the 2.0/2.1 update in early 2010 and made the switch. No regrets, I love it, I can't put it down. Android defintely does!!!!

I came from a 3g iPhone to the Droid. I returned it after two days. The Droid's keyboard was useless, and made the phone too bulky. I'm not crazy about Motorola phones, and the Droid reminded me of a big RAZR. Picked up the Eris two days ago, and so far I am very happy with it.

I miss a few features that I had on the iPhone, like the ability to automatically BCC myself on outgoing emails, and the Eris' bluetooth not transferring contacts to my car. Other than that, I think that the Eris is very solid.

I've been trying to figure out how to turn off the music player on the eris. I can't find an off or exit control. I have been hitting the pause button on the player and then the back or home buttons. Is there a better way to exit the music player.

install an app manager that allows you to kill all the apps you have open. it will speed your phone up too because it won't be running as many apps. if it still won't close you have to restart the phone. I had a problem with my music player not closing even if i closed it with an app manager but after i restarted the phone it worked perfectly.

I keep my phone in my front pocket of my jeans and finally gave up on trying to get used to the heavy factor of the droid. Hopefully it will be a great phone when the next generation comes out and Verizon realizes they need to slim it down, round out the edges and lighten it up.

My Eris is 'ok' and though physically the shape, weight and feel is great I miss the droid. With that said I would not switch back because of the down sides of the droid ... so like I said earlier hopefully they will slim down and lighten up the droid and until then I'll have to stick with the eris.

I had the Moto for 29 days before going to the Eris. I miss it's awesome screen and faster processor when web browsing and Google Nav and some other features of 2.0. My Moto also slightly better call quality and reception and battery life and much better speaker than the Eris. But I gained a great form factor, Sense UI, physical call and end buttons, and a trackball. I don't miss the bulky form of the Moto, the crap camera quality, and the metal casing which looked like it would scratch up over time. I don't think I'll miss the physical Keyboard although I did use it from time to time and think it was quite as horrible as it is made out to be. I hope HTC comes out with a higher end Eris that has the better screen and processor. Until then I'll be happy with the Eris especially when it gets updated to 2.0+.

Sometimes I swear I had one of the few Motos with very few problems (and yet I still didnt want to keep it). After using the Eris some more I can now say that the Eris has almost as good call quality as the Moto. MY Moto Droid had good call quality and reception. I don't know what to say? I had no reverberation or muffling on either end. I did have to put the dang thing down on my lap and use it on speaker phone if I was making a long call because it was just uncomfortable to me to hold it up for any decent period of time. I have had really good luck with call quality from my last 3 phones before this (BB 8830, LG 8700 and LG 8300) and I know I am in a pretty decent cell area. FWIW.

i personally have found the Eris to have a nicer sound quality than the Droid. but i think they are both pretty close.
