Root Deciding what ROM to flash...

Hello fellow phandroids. I've been flashing ROMs on my Droid since February, and pretty much know exactly what to expect and what I want from those ROMs. But I'm not all that familiar with the DInc's ROMs. Both my mother and my g/f have the DInc and I've been trying to share with them the awesomeness that is rooting.

I've already rooted my g/f's and have flashed a couple ROMs. Currently, she's running SkyRaider 3.3. Everything was fine and dandy until she needed her GPS (neither of us really use it, not a whole lot of traveling where we don't know where we're going). Her phone kept constantly rebooting on her while trying to use it, but was fine while not using it. I won't go into detail about how much butt I had chewed off b/c I was the one that talked her into rooting, but suffice it to say, it's time for a new ROM. lol

Mostly, she just wants her phone to function as it should with no lil quirks. The phone is plenty fast as is, but the one major downfall is battery life. I know I've read that some ROMs eliminate the need for bump charging and just get better battery life overall.

So what ROMs are you running and what might you suggest. Thank you in advance for any advice you can give.

I was using CyanogenMOD 6 on my Incredible, least buggy ROM for the Inc I've seen by far! Droid Ultimate is a good one too but I didn't have the 2.0 radio in mine so didn't work on mine. (You can tell what radio version you have from the HBOOT menu.)

Also with Cyanogen make sure you install the google apps zip when you flash it or you wont have the Market.

Skyraider is one of my favs. I currently run Redemption 2.2 and it's rock solid. zero quirks *knock on wood* If you dont have setcpu yet, I highly recommend getting it. It can drastically improve battery life.

Oh yes, SetCPU is a must. Being able to underclock while the screen is off helps conserve so much battery. I don't know if anyone else has had navigation issues with Skyraider, but the woman was highly upset with that. Now, she was also using a car charger that we did not get from Verizon, and I suppose that might could have been the cause for the rebooting as well. But there was no issue when she wasn't using navigation.

Really, I just want to get her better battery life. The DInc just simply has terrible battery life, the only real knock on an otherwise great phone. Also, do all the current ROMs replace the need for bump charging?

Oh, and one more thing. I notice the woman is getting a lot of OTA updates. I would have thought this would have been blocked by most ROMs. On the Droid, most ROMs block them automatically, as they can/will bring the phones back to stock. Hasn't been an issue with her DInc, but as I stated in the OP, I'm very unfamiliar with the DInc's root world.

Virtuous for Sense and Jager for nonsense. No issues on this end... ever. There are threads about the update nag on custom ROMs, I haven't read them yet because I lose/break my phones so often I rarely have one between updates.

Kernels make a big diff in your battery usage as well.
The Incredible List has a lot of info collected from a lot of forums. Weazol has been doing a great job keeping that site up to date on all of the pertinent info you may want too. HAve fun! Be aware that there are issues with the different screens. SLCD v AMOLED. Make sure you know which you are messing with before miffing your gal or her mom!

It's been the same way on the DI until this last maintenance OTA when the nag came through even on most custom ROMs. There is a simple fix to thwart it by modding the build.prop file slightly.

There are several recent ROMs that focus on better battery life. MIUI and Myn's Warm 2.2 are a few I've tried that attain that goal. Looks like HeyItsLou just released a new Redemptive + OTA contents ROM that seeks to maximize batter life also.

Thanks a bunch guys. She's been having a ton of issues lately, and I'm fairly certain it's the updates she's been getting. I flash new ROMs on my Droid like crazy, but I rarely ever look to see what's new or updated over here. Being as I can't get most of her apps to work, including ROM Manager, I'm nandroiding back and going to flash a new ROM.

This does, lead me to another question. Look for a new thread. But please feel free to keep this one going as a means of telling others what ROM is your flavor of the week.
