Help Cant Speech to text :( where did it go?

The voice to speech option is only available on the android keyboard, not on the swype one. If you press and hold on the text input field, a menu will pop up, select input and then android keyboard.

I have tried that but the only options in input method is swype and samsung keypad, where would I find the android keyboard?

Brad :)

There's a little microphone button on the swype keyboard on my phone since updating to 2.2 yesterday. It wasn't there on the previous version of 2.2 I had on it.

I have FroYo, and the version of Swype is '2.1.41....', and there isn't a Speech-to-Text option for me. It's only available in the Samsung Keypad on my Phone.

Could you please tell me the version of Swype that you're using?

Thanks!

I have swype ver 1.61.37 and when I put it on Samsung keyboard i still see no microphone

EDIT Im sorry, I also forgot im on 2.1 and have the bell vibrant (front facing camera)

I also have the Bell vibrant. It appears that Bell has elected to disable the Android keyboard option for some reason. Fortunately for us, there is an app that will add a microphone to the keyboard. It is called Vlingo and has some great options including the ability to send voice commands to the phone and Safe Reader which will read emails and text messages to you while you are driving. I was quite impressed with the accuracy of the voice recognition.

I am assuming the STT you mean is the little microphone button on a keyboard, like the one that's on the Samsung keyboard? Just making sure I am totally on the right track.

Originally I updated to Nordic froyo using the reg hack method, and that did not have the microphone button on the swype keyboard.

Froyo was released for optus australia a day or so ago so I used the kies reg hack program to update my phone to the official version of froyo for me. The swype keyboard now has a microphone button between the return button and full stop button. The swype version is 2.6.47.11856. This is what came with my froyo update, I didn't do any hacking or upgrading to swype.

If you're using handcent for sms, if you press the menu button the menu that comes up has a TTS option there.

Vlingo doesn't give the option for me to speak and it to talk it only reads it back to me and I can give it voice commands, why would bell take the voice to text off thephone it's like taking swype away, its something andriod phones do so well
I'm a but pissed off now, so if I were to install 2.2 non samsung would I get it?

So stupid

It annoys me as well. I think you can get the android keyboard back by rooting the phone, but I'm not ready to do that.

With regard to Vlingo, when it is running, go to Settings | Locale and text and enable the Vlingo keyboard. Then press Select Input Method (or long press any input field) and select the Vlingo keyboard. This will add a microphone key to your keyboard and allow you to dictate input.
