This was originally asked in the rooting forum, but I got almost no help there, so im asking this here.

I have an evo4g and rooted it. I run 2.2 and a month old version of fresh or so.

Anyway, just got a bluetooth usb dongle at newegg for $7. I plugged it in and it connected my phone flawlessly for audio. Basically for audio all I do is toggle bluetooth on on the phone, then.. hit play and music is coming thru my computer speakers. Amazing.

That said - I can't seem to connect for bluetooth wifi. Is there a different driver for the phone that I need to d/l somewhere?

Going to the windows 7 (I run win 7 ultimate) it says about my phone under the services tab:

BRCM Advanced Audio
Handsfree Telephony Gateway
Object Push (Obex)

This leads me to believe I need a different driver perhaps? When I go to "Join a Personal Area Network" there are no devices listed. I try to add device but it doesn't find my phone.

I know this is kinda complicated so if you dont understand my problem please ask for a clarification.

Thanks so much fellow evo users!

Do you have Wireless Tether installed on your phone?

When you run Wireless Tether, under Menu > Settings: you have the option to use Bluetooth PAN tether instead of WiFi, just check 'Use Bluetooth".

Then your computer should be able to find it.

Did you even read my posting? I am well beyond that.

As stated, wifi tether is running my windows 7 just cant seem to find it. Does anyone know if this is a driver problem in windows or is it a limitation of wifi tether on the evo?

Does ANYONE have wifi tether for root users running successfully via bluetooth on their evo?

If you don't tell wireless tether on the phone that you wish to do it via bluetooth..it won't send via bluetooth.

Nowhere in either of your posts do mention that you have checked that setting in wifi tether on the phone.

If I can find my dongle I will try it out. My experience with bt tethering has been that the speeds are much slower...so no, I have not attempted to do so

If you can get it to work with your evo and wifi via bluetooth tether let me know. Yes I have the wifi via bluetooth setting on, lol. If you do get it working, can you link the windows driver you used to do so?

Also, if you can post your speeds on it that would be cool too, much appreciated. I really only want bluetooth tether for backup times when my road runner goes down.. which.. is frequent enough to warrant this. If it ultimately doesn't work a) At least its not me and I'll know and b) I'll just go buy a $20 usb wireless adapter I suppose, because that works no problem.

Thanks again

no problem...on the road runner side...have you checked that it isn't a modem issue?

they just replaced my modem for frequent issues

now I'm golden

No, its not my modem. They had upstream issues which were pretty severe a few months back (24+ hours without net, etc). Im a system admin so I talked to levelIII support at time warner and the guy was just like "Sadly you and your building are just plugged into a switch which is using 100% cpu for unknown reasons. They eventually fixed it but it has blipped quite a few times since then. As a sys admin I work from home sometimes so def NEED net at random times. Its been smooth sailing for like 3 months, but ya just.. never.. know.

Any results on that bluetooth testing?

Why would you want to tether over bluetooth? if your windows 7 system isn't seeing the wifi tether with a wireless card, something is wrong in the tethering app, most likely not the right app version. Go to google's version page for wireless tether and get the latest version to see if that helps. Should be no reason to tether over bluetooth when you can tether over wifi instead.

I do not have wifi in my desktop computer.
