Disable keyboard open?

How do you disable the keyboard from opening the phone? If I have the phone locked and need to swipe it to open it, this is all bypassed when the keyboard is opened. The problem is that if the phone is locked and in your pocket and the keyboard is bumped open, then the phone unlocks and the next thing you know is it's calling someone! There has got to be a way to disable this function. Moto Flipside

How do you bump open the keyboard if the phone is locked? Don't you have to unlock your phone before the keyboard can be "bumped open"? I do (2.2 Froyo).

A very quick google shows that the Moto Flipside has a hardware keyboard.

Still, you've got to have awfully roomy pockets to have the keyboard pop open (and not notice). I don't know how to fix this that does not involve smaller pockets, a rubber band, or some steampunk-ish clasp mechanism to physically prevent the phone from opening.
