Guys,
It's been brought to my attention there's a firmware upgrade available for the Tab which takes it to JJ7.

I am hearing it's basically a 'bug-fix' sorting out a few issues, namely the Email App which used to crash on each time it was loaded a second time and the Gallery App which has had to amendments:-
1. The thumbnail preview's often did not used to load correctly, resulting in having to close down the Gallery and restart.

2. Loading of Gallery is much faster now.

I've also heard there's an improvement to the stock browser but have no details of what this contains.

I've not performed the upgrade yet...... namely because I do not trust Kies.
It temporary 'bricked' my SGS and I had to resort to the 3-Button Recovery, a copy of Odin and a ROM file from samfirmware.com to sort the SGS out.
Basically I don't want to end up doing the same on the Tab.

What are the basic steps to perform this update if you dont mind explaining?
The first thing to check is to see if the upgrade has been made available for your particular Tab. As always, because it's a Samsung product that would mean having to use Kies.
So, with Kies installed on your PC (available from the Samsung Support web site) all you need do is attach your Tab to the PC and select Kies as the connection method. Kies will then automatically load and your Tab should connect.
If you then look near the bottom right of Kies there will be an option where you can check for updates. Providing Samsung have released an upgrade for your type of Tab it should then show on a window brought up by Kies.

Is this Kies app for any version of the Galaxy Tab? There was no mention of it when I got mine (T-Mobile version), but I have been reading that each provider seems to have set up the Tab with different options for software. Kind of makes it confusing.

The Kies App is for all Tabs but this upgrade is not.
What you need to do is go to your phone and check which version you have. If it begins with JJ as in JJ3 then the upgrade is for you.

JJ seems to be for all phone's purchased in the UK without a carrier.
The carriers versions will undoubtedly follow.

Samsung made the error with Froyo for the SGS in making non-carrier models wait. In the end after a lot of pressure Samsung ran out of patience and released the Froyo JPO version for the SGS a month ago. Even now a month later some carriers have still not released their Froyo version. It would be safe to assume this time for the Tab they are not waiting for carriers so again you need to keep an eye on Kies for when your carrier follows suit.

Ahhhh. OK ... I have a US version, so guess it's not for me. My Baseband version is T849UVJJB and the Build Number is FROYO.UVJJB. Neither starts with JJ.

Thanks for your help.
Actually I have confused this a little... When I say it begins with JJ what I am referring to is at the end of the serial it will begin JJ. It is the JJ (and a number) that is quite important.
This is the Build Number I am referring to:- FROYO.XWJJ3
The upgrade should take it to FROYO.XWJJ7
