First timer here. I'm just trying to connect my Captivate to my PC and so far have had no luck.

I've searched though the similar threads but I'm still scratching my head. I've checked out Capfaq and that got me no where. I've downloaded Kies and that program couldn't connect. I've tried to download drivers, but I just ended up with 20 folders I didn't know what to do with. Windows device manager just says unknown device and it's troubleshooter is useless.

I've been at this for 2 hours, can someone just walk me though this.

I've connected the phone to my PC with the USB cable and then accepted 'Mount' option when prompted from the pull down bar. But from there nothing happens, I can't see the phone as a device in the 'My Computer' folder, Kies won't connect to it and Windows Decive Manager still lists it as Unknown.

Alright thanks for those tips.

I'm going to uninstall Kies and everything else I've downloaded so far and try this from scratch.

I just want to put some mp3's on my phone. What do you recommend is the easiest to do that?

Samsung really crapped the bed on this one because this is way too much effort. And what exactly is PC studio?

I've actually seen people cause more problems than harm by unnecessarily installing USB drivers for the Captivate. The Captivate, when used strictly as a USB mass-storage device, does not need any special drivers installed into Windows. The drivers that come with Windows will detect it just fine. If it doesn't, there's something unique already messed up on your computer.
