Root Howto install DATA2SD: Guide

Ain't that the truth. But then 3 months ago I had an unrooted, Orange-branded Desire, and now I have a rooted, custom-ROMed, modded-radio, overclocked Desire. Maybe small successes have emboldened me, but I'm interested to learn more now.

Although I'll probably wait until I've saved up a bit more cash in case I do something I'll regret ;)

Well this one doesn't involve flashign anything. Its just sending commands to files within the rom, so flashing a rom and formatting SD card is all thats needed to undo / recover.

Guys..Take a look..This is my Class 2 16Gb Kingston..

http://androidforums.com/members/turbohobbit.htmlEDIT: I got a lot of force closes with the Kingston 16Gb..
I take back what I said..Class 2 does seem error prone.

And one more thing..
Data2SD is not more dangerous than rooting your Rom/S-OFF..In fact it is less dangerous than either, even though I pasted a sinister note of caution. ;)

It's just like flashing a rom. And as Dan said, if something goes wrong, we can reverse by the same process we follow in case of corrupt Roms-Wipe data and Restore from Nandroid. Only in this case, we might need to format the partition which holds the ext.

On an aside..I had a bootloop when I tried to install on a card which already held some data in the 1st FAT32 partn. If you format both FAT32 to start with, it works superbly..

EDIT: It was working for some time, and then suddenly out of the blue, I got a lot of force closes on reboot.

i wouldnt say its even that dangerous
tbh its no more dangerous than a2sd+ its just that because its in its infancy you have to go the hard root to do it

EDIT for DAN:

hes getting 1828 and i think thats first pass and his cpu is not overclocked by the looks of things.

Yup..Not overclocked, though I've installed Teppic's rom with its kernel mods..

Hadnt gotten around setting up setcpu.. :)
