I am creating this thread to create more of a sense of community for the MT4G owners. I recently changed from the Droid X, and the Droid prior to that. So far I am enjoying my MT4G, just a couple other things I am trying to figure out (I just got the phone last night). I already have Permroot, and am looking forward to getting a custom ROM on it.

How is everyone else liking their MT4G

If you're looking for a custom ROM should check out xda-developers. They have a couple of ROMs over there already, even have an oc kernel taking us up to 1.7 GHz
Cool, I'll check it out when I get home. I actually hadn't looked at xda since I got my MT4G. Are there vanilla Android ROMs yet, or something like CM6?

I'm coming from a Samsung Vibrant & the MT4G provides everything I was missing from that phone. It's practically perfrect! One thing, for some reason the stock SMS app force closes quite a bit. What other apps can you recommend? I've heard lots of good things about Handcent. Any others I should try?
I have used nothing but handcent for the most part for over a year. When the Droid x first came out there was a compatibility issue so I used chomp for a while. They are both pretty much the same, but chomp has ads unless you pay for them to be removed. Overall I have never tried anything that beats handcent

there are a is an unofficial CM for us but it is rather buggy, so far the best IMO is Teamsilence's Iced Glacier... it is more or less stock but deodexed, zip-aligned and has a bunch of the bloat ware removed with OC kernel capable of 1.7GHz preloaded. I have been able to get Linpack scores north of 50 and Quadrant scores well north of 2500 with it

Yeah, I saw that one. I am hesitant to try it right now because it says the camera is extremely laggy. Maybe I'll give it a shot though. Is there a non themed version?

are you talking about the CM one or Iced-Glacier? Iced has no camera lag I use mine alot and yeah there is a non themed version but the black/blue theme is sick looking
I don't remember which one I saw it on, but based on your statement of no lag for the camera I'll go ahead and give it a shot tonight or tomorrow since that was really the only thing holding me back.Is that Rom sense free or is it based on the stock MT4G ROM?

Just installed the non themed iced glacier ROM, So far I like it and it's super fast

There are 2 things I am having problems with (they existed before I installed the ROM also):

1. Keep getting error message "The process com.htc.bgp has stopped..." force close. Anyone have any ideas how to eliminate this error?

2. I use LauncherPro+ as my Launcher (I have even deleted the sense launcher), it will not save the default action for the home button. Half the time when I press the home button I get the pop up asking me if I want to use LauncherPro or HomeHelper (From WidgetLocker). Anyone know of a fix for this?

Other than those 2 things I am REALLY loving this phone!

Hello to all my new homies! I just converted from TP 2 and am ready to rock this Droid! I am trying to put some other audio files in my device, which I did..but can not select them as ring tones...which directory is the ring tones in and also which directory are the system sounds in?

Ringtones - /sdcard/media/audio/ringtones
System sounds - /system/media/audio

If you can't get the ringtones to work when you place them in the ringtone folder on your SD, then they may be the wrong format. Use Ringdroid to convert them. It will take just about any audio file and turn it into a ringtone and store it in the proper place.

I've just rooted and flashed my phone to iced glacier 1.1.1 with the help of chrlswltrs. I've been messing around with it for about 8 hours and have no problems except 1. Iced glacier didn't have youtube widget so I went and got it. When I play a video in landscape mode and press the back button my phone goes nuts like a slot machine and loops. Only option is to take out battery. Bootloader isn't possible until after you take out battery. I just reboot and everything is normal. Youtube app did not do that with stock rom. I've been able to replicate about 20 times trying to find out the cause. Gonna stop using it so I don't brick my phone. Anyone else have this problem?

The only bug I have found is that my bluetooth straming audio doesn't work. BUT, here is the plus side:

One is my normal score, the higher one I turned OC up to just under 1.8 GHz

I won't have this phone much longer. I like it but the nexus S is being released within my 30 day return window at best buy so I'm getting it! I do like this phone and I'll still hang out in this forum if anyone needs help though

...Really? The Nexus S is a bit of a downgrade to what we have now, no? No HSPA+, no expandable memory, etc. It's basically going to be like a Vibrant running vanilla 2.3. If that's what you want, I guess...

I wouldn't call it a step down at all. MyTouch wins for 4G, nexus wins for the screen, OS (stock vs sense), updates from Google, no bloat, hardware acceleration via the gpu. expandable memory I don't care about, I don't come close to filling my 16 gig memory card, so 16 gig internal is fine with me.

Fair enough. Coming from the Vibrant I totally feel you about the screen. I'm weird I guess...everyone pretty much hates Sense, but I love it. I don't have much experience with vanilla android besides playing around on a G2, but I like Sense more. I do dislike the bloatware and how skins make it more difficult to implement updates, though.

I have had the Droid (vanilla android), the Eris (Sense), Droid X(MotoBLUR), and the myTouch, IMO Vanilla is by far the best and doesn't slow down updates. Plus maybe it's just me but I really like the idea of having a google phone, not a phone with google. If it wasn't for the S being released I definitely would have been happy with the myTouch as I feel it is a great device, even with Sense :D

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention my single biggest reason for changing and the only thing I have really been disappointed with on the MyTouch, the development community just doesn't seem to be there for this phone and I know it will be big on the nexus s

considering how new the phone is (barely a month) so far I have been impressed with the Dev community... Permanent root, S-off (not just bootloader but completely unlocked so phone can be used on other carriers without having to beg TMO for an unlock code) and a couple of ROMs. It seems a lot of people complain about the slow development, but think about how long G1 was out before they got any of that. to me it's just kind of killing the development community that as soon as a new device comes out everyone runs to it expecting everything to be ready on day 1 and if it's not as expanded as the G1 and N1 with in a few weeks then "it's a dead device" so the race to get the next big thing is on. After getting burned with the BH2 and seeing how crappy the Galaxy S "Vibrant" was and how fast my In-Laws returned them for all sorts of issues I swore I'd never buy another SamSux product again... seeing that the NS is basically just a warmed up Galaxy S I'll pass and hold off getting a "Google Phone" until they pull their heads out and get back with HTC or Moto

T-Mobile's return is within 14 days, even at Best Buy and if you ask me the Nexus S is a huge downgrade. Good luck though!
