Root ROM Question

Hi guys!

Im getting my new evo in about a week or so and I wanted to know which ROM would be best for me based on my needs:

1) Improved battery life
2) Most bloatware removed with the exception of Facebook, Twitter, Sprint TV
3) 3G, 4G, WIFI intact
4) Improved call quality and speaker
5) Sense UI intact
6) improved Camera and video
7) Overall improved speed with ability to under or overclock
8) Most important of all is stable


I've looked around and so far I like BakedSnack 1.7. Any other other suggestions or recommendations? Thanks in advance!!!

BakedSnack will fit your needs. Keep this in mind, you can underclock/overclock with any rom. It just depends on the kernel. If im not mistaken you can overclock with any kernel besides stock htc. Every rom fits everybody different. I suggest you just head over to XDA find some roms you like and start flashing. If you don't like flash a different one. Thats the beauty of rooting!

The most popular, stable sense ROMs seem to be:

-Myn's
-Fresh
-Baked Snacks

Any of these 3 would meet your needs. Just be sure to make backups and flash away and decide what you like best. I have been a long advocate for Fresh, but lately have been enjoy Myn's.

I've tried all the Sense Roms, mentioned above, and like them all, but I just keep going back to Myn's Warm. He is constantly updating and adding cool things. I can easy go 2 days on a single charge with light use and 12 hours with my heavy use. Of course the battery length will depend on your usage.

Do you actually have the phone yet? Chances are you have the 2.02 hboot, in wihch case, this is unfortunately your only option:

I don't recommend this unless you really know what you're doing. It's much easier to break your phone this way.

I dont have the phone in hand yet. I ordered it from Wirefly yesterday. Is there another simple way of rooting similar to revoke with the new hboot? Or is it possible to load the older hboot on the phone?

Unrevoked does not work with the new hboot yet, unfortunately.

Supposedly you can downgrade the hboot, but don't blame me if you end up with a brick:

Just took a look at that thread and not feeling comfortable with some of the posts, lol. I think I might have to hold off til revoked is updated to work with the new hboot.

Just got my EVO today. Looks like it was loaded with software 3.29.651.5 and hboot .97 so I was able to use unrevoked to root it. For some reason I was having some issues with the drivers after I had successfully installed the windows hboot drivers on my xp machine. The first time I tried unrevoked it didn't work. I tried it a second time and everything worked. Thought I bricked it cause after first time I tried I got a black screen with an alert icon and I couldn't do anything with the phone. I did a battery pull and everything booted normally.

One other question. Is it safe to say that I won't be able to install the Sprint OTA updates once my phone is rooted and I'm running a non factory rom?

That is correct. Of course, most rom developers keep their software base up to date, so it doesn't really matter. Generally speaking, though, within hours of an OTA release (and sometimes even before an official release), a rooted stock version makes its way to xda.
