Help Camera, and apps to improve

My very first impressions of the camera quality were good, but now ... I'm finding I get similar sort of results and quality as this guy, as shown here :-

(a comparison between the iPhone and Milestone)
(ok, MS2 has technical improvements in focusing etc but I'm talking colour balance, contrast etc)

Is this something fundamental concerning the camera optics/construction quality or is it something to do with the software? If it is software is it hard wired of has anyone found apps that improve it?

p.s.
Oddly, the quality is similar to that of my old Nokia VGA!! The only really significant difference is that the photo is bigger (and the fact that my old Nokia has been to the bottom of a lake and back now!)

Is that software "user configurable", via apps or similar, or part of the system software?

If it is driven by apps/etc do you have any recommendations as a photographer yourself? (I get that it's never going to be a Nikon )

Of course it is configurable. Just check camera settings and you can adjust contrast there.

Thanks, I already checked (and played with) the camera settings.

I asked you because:
(1) all software settings are not all configurable through the user interface, and
(2) you might have investigated how to get the best out of the hardware.

(btw my frst "smartphone" was a Treo way back in 2002, s****t that's nearly a decade ago! Things have moved on in some ways but this morning realised that the MS2 has no "old-technology" infrared port I used to love being able to use devices as remote controls. Besides never having to find the remote it was convenient, and sometimes fun, to be able to change the channel in the pub!)

My only recommendation is to try things on your own and also search the Applications forum. We cannot just give you all answers straight away, you have to think for yourself, otherwise, you will never learn anything.

I cannot share this with you because I have never used the camera since I got the phone.

Can't get my head around the: "they take images that are too clean, too accurate", statement. But I've read it a few places. Me, that's exactly what I want from a camera. No gimics, no editing, no AI, just a camera that records what I see (not actually as easy as it sounds, as witnessed by the quality of the MS2 offering).

The sound effects on the installed app also drive me around the bend. They make me feel I'm stuck in Hamley's with a pack of 8 year olds!

NOTE:

Camera sounds are NOT "hard-wired". There are apps to turn camera sound off e.g. Camera Pro (can't vouch for them though)

As a 2-day Milestone 2 user, I'd love to know if any of you guys found a way or an app to improve camera quality, paid or not. I only installed those instagram-like apps. I'm wondering if I can improve the 'raw' image quality, not only looking for apps with cool filters and stuff. Almost bought Camera Zoom FX but not sure if it will improve my pics significantly.

But I guess the camera will never be nearly as good as the iPhone4'one
