Increased Battery Life

That's not what it says here under "Train Your Battery".

That goes against what I've been told by battery experts at my company and what I've read when researching on my own. The only reason I've been given to do a full drain is to reset the accuracy of the battery meter over time.

The point that running the battery through a few cycles when new will bring it up to full performance is correct, but there is no need, from what I've been told, to run the battery all the way down.

Of course, running it all the way down a couple times probably won't hurt.

Reminds me maybe of speaker companies that tell customers customers that speakers need to be "broken in" and will sound better over time. Speakers don't break in, but they realized that if you keep the speakers for a while you'll get used to the sound and be unlikely to return them. :)

Quick question and I apologized if it's been answered, but I've seen conflicting statements...I want to get the best possible battery life I can, but at the same time during the day/evening, I want my email and texts to come thru immediately...so...

I set up a custom battery saver that says, off peak - 9:30 - 6:45, turn off data after 15 minutes and then peak hours, If I always want gmail, touchdown, etc to push emails regardless if the phone is sleeping, do I need to set that to Always keep on? Or will my email come through with 1x service just as it would with 3g? Or is this not even what that is talking about!?

In summary, I just want it set up so that I get good battery life, but still get my emails between 6:45am and 9:30pm.

Thanks a lot...

I would up downloading the Juice Defender ap (paid version) and it's awesome. My phone lasted 23 hours yesterday before I got the 5% warning message. That was normal texting, emails, more calls than normal and playing some games...I was pretty satisifed...I have it set to turn data on 10 minutes every hour when the screen is off and then data is always on when the phone is in use and I haven't had an issue getting emails late, or anything...

Just took it off the charger a little while ago and have been texting, emailing and downloading updates since then, so we'll see what happens today with it...

I have the D2G. Would you guys recommend me set the phone for Global, CDMA or GSM to help increase battery life?

Interesting question. I'd probably go with CDMA, being that maybe the phone will roam less? I don't really have much reasoning behind it, but since Verizon is a CDMA carrier, it just seems better to keep it on CDMA.

1) Drain the battery all the way until it shuts down and then recharge completely while the phone is turned off. (Do so a couple times.)
Interesting. I've been letting mine drain to around 25%, then charging it back up to 100%, then pulling it off the charger as soon as I notice it's full (I read about the 25% thing somewhere, just can't remember where now).

Maybe I should let it drain completely a few times ans see what happens.

So you keep backround data unchecked all the time?
I unchecked it and couldn't acess the market... am I missing something? Or do you always have to turn it back on?

Yup, you pretty much have to turn it back on and then go turn it back off. Its NOT a big deal or anything. Takes you only a couple of seconds to turn it back off. Plus its not like you'd be on the market all day.

I'm having horrible battery life problems with my Droid 2 Global. I followed this how-to to a T and I'm managing to get ~8 hours of totally stand by time, no use at all. With light use, it drops to a little under 6 hours, with "average" use the battery goes from 100% to dead in 4 hours or less, usually less.

Any ideas?

I otherwise like the phone, but having to be tethered to a charger almost constantly is making me seriously consider taking the phone back and getting something else.

Umm assuming you make sure background data isn't checked all day I would turn the brightness down to 10%. The screen eats up a lot of battery and that should help. If this doesn't do anything I'd get an extended battery. I wasn't having horrible battery life, but I knew it would be worth getting one and I'm glad I did.

Ok so I have background data on. Auto brightness. Performance battery mode and screen time out after 30 seconds. My weather app refresh every hour and email syncs every half hour. Im getting anywhere from 16 to 24 hours unplugged with lite to moderate use. I have battery indicator pro and watch dog lite which is what I think is helping me. I also charge my phone when its anywhere from 5-20%.

I had it at 20%. I'll bump that down and see where that puts me.

After tonight the phone is on its last legs with me. Got a flat tire on a major road at 1 in the morning with no phone to call for help. Had to pull out the car charger and wait 20 minutes to call a friend to help. Thursday I missed a critical call about my grandma because my phone died between my office and my bus ride home.

Really considering a trade before my 30 days are up.

How much extra time does the extended battery add?

You really shouldn't be getting such poor battery time. I find it odd that you are after following all the advice everyone has giving you. Try exchanging it for another D2G before giving up on the phone entirely.

It has 30% more cells so depending on how you use the phone it should add anywhere from 1hr to 3hrs.

Yeah, I just went back through and double checked all the settings. Had the boyfriend double check to make sure all the settings were correct. Everything that's off can be off. I'm hoping I just got a dud. Last night I got just under 6 hours with absolutely MINIMAL use. I sent 3 texts, and turned the screen on maybe 4 times just long enough to check the time. I got a flat tire last night and was stranded without a phone to call anyone for help. So it's going back. I'm going to give another D2G a shot before I give up. I don't mind the phone, I really like the keyboard, etc. Not to mention the main functions I NEED out of the phone are e-mail push and Talk, neither of which work without background data. With background data on, I'm not getting any more than 4-5 hours tops out of the phone.
