Hi Everyone,

I'm new to Android and have a few questions...

  1. When I'm connected to my home wireless network - is there a way to join my home group (win7)?
  2. how do I sync files via wireless?
  3. is there a good Ereader for mobi ebooks?
  4. what are the top 3 apps you have installed?
Thanks so much, looking forward to learning more about android.

I don't think an Android device can join a Windows Home Group. There are apps on the market that can allow streaming but the one app I use for transfering files to and from my device is Andftp. I have a NAS drive that I can ftp into and the app lets you copy to and from the Android device to your home NAS drive. Remote Desktop (it was a $20.00 app but may be more now) is a great app to log onto your Windows PC and remote control it. I have emailed myself files before to get them on my phone by using Remote Desktop. Slacker Radio is another favorite app for me. I will probably purchase the paid version for $3.99 a month... it's that good. Another favorite is PrinterShare Paid Premium version. It allows you to print to any network printer when the Tab is using the wireless network. For Home Screen customization I like LauncherPro and Home Switcher to switch between stock and LauncherPro home screens. Widget Locker is a superb lock screen that allows custom widgets and custom sliders right on the lock screen.

Hi, welcome to android. I have a Samsung Vibrant which was/is my first ever android phone I got a few months ago so I am still learning but I will try to help as much as I can.

  1. Sadly I don't think Android can connect to windows as of yet.
  2. Their are a couple of apps out there such as: awesome drop, dropbox, etc
  3. I am not sure what opens mobi files but adobe reader does good with pdf files.
  4. Lookout(free virus protection), Dropbox(for transfering files wireless), Sonic Screwdriver(Because I am a huge Doctor Who fan.)
Hope that helped some :)

Yes, you can download from the Market via WiFi and not your 3G data connection.

I'm not entirely sure you can access the market place without a SIM in the Tab (I may be wrong on this), but you certainly don't need to use the SIM's data connection.

EDIT: Just checked - you don't need the SIM card in to download stuff from the Market (at least, not free stuff anyway).
