Those sly cats at Google couldn’t release the Gingerbread SDK without its flagship phone, so in conjunction with Samsung they have officially announced the Nexus S. You can jump right over the Nexus S product page now, even, but don’t expect to purchase it there. Google is done with that model, instead moving the phone [...]

So I went to the google.com/phone page and compared my current vibrant to the upcoming nexus s. Very similar in specs, so i thought id ask the question. I can sell my vibrant for probably around $300 and the nexus would cost me about $270 out of pocket. Think its worth it? Or just stick with the vibrant?

Well, samsung had to cripple the phone somehow... they can't do slow to non existent updates with a nexus phone, nor can they have *ducked* up gps, so why not gimp it by removing the sd card? Makes sense, they have to screw their phones in at least ONE major way. If they didn't, well, it just wouldn't be Samsung.

+1 on the 5MP camera. What were they thinking?

I'll settle for 2.3 on my Nexus One, and wait for a better phone in 2011!

Go to any photography forum and you'll learn more MPs does not mean better pictures. 5MP is more than enough for a phone and you'll get better pictures from any P&S camera than you will with a phone. More MPs allows you to make bigger pictures with better quality not better pictures.

No MicroSD expansion slot is a dealbreaker for me as well.

It's hard to believe they left that out. A developer phone has got to have all the common features. "Sorry, sir, our development phones don't have a MicroSD slot, so we couldn't test our app with an SD card. You're on your own." Just no way!

This sucks! What is Samsung thinking  Maybe Google should go back to HTC???

I may be wrong, but I don't find the Nexus S to be much of an "upgrade" over the Nexus One. I mean I held out on getting the Nexus One because I had high hopes for the "S".

Physically I find the "S" to be very unattractive from the pictures I've seen, but who knows... the iphone4 looked unattractive in pictures as well, but in person its much nicer.

For people who already have a Nexus One will you be getting the Nexus S?

8 megapixels is better than 5 megapixels. Since phone cameras don't yet come with optical zoom, the only way to enlarge and clip an image is to lose resolution. I do a lot of zooming and I'd rather start from a higher resolution. Maybe I'm in the tiny minority here.

The Mot Droid X comes with 8 gigs internal and a 16 gig microSD card. Right out of the box, it kicks the Nexus S's ess. And if you replace that 16 with a 32, you're talking 40 gigs of storage. Hoo boy.

I still haven't been able to replace my 80 gig iPod. If the S had come with 32 internal plus a slot, that would bring it closer to solving that problem. If the S had come with an SDXC slot (backward compatible but will handle up to 2 terabyte cards!!!) then I would call it the world's most advanced phone.

I guess Google is pushing for a more cloud-based experience on the handheld, which of course means local storage becomes less important. But in reality, local storage is still critical, and I'll bet that the masses will go for the expandability option, other features being equal.
