Managing Contacts

Ok so I have had this problem for quite a while, it started with one of my phones a year or two ago where when I had put the sim card into the new phone it kinda screwed up all my sim contacts. E.g Instead of listing someone as Jon K. it would list it as M,/Jon . K. As far as I know the whole M./ thing represent that the contact was saved to the Sim as a mobile number rather than home number. I was hoping with all the functionality of an Android phone that I would finally be able to fix my contacts. What I would like to know is

1. How can I export my Sim contacts to my Pc?
2. How can I easily edit them on my Pc?
3. Export back to Sim when finished?

Keep in mind that I'm a real dumbass when it comes to Technological stuff so please give me the easiest option possible. All the threads i looked at for this problem all had stuff like GMail sync or Outlook sync which all went over my head, also Kies is a pile of Crap so using that is really out the equation...

(Btw it's a real pain in the ass to edit each individual contact through your phone, that is why I haven't bothered. Looking for an easier/quicker solution)

Thanks in advance .

You never mentioned what type of phone you have, so specific help would be hard to give. My last phone before Android was a Palm Centro, which used a SIM card but synced with my computer through the Palm Desktop software. That had a feature to export the contacts as an Excel file, which you can then import into Google, and edit as needed. If your phone has a way to connect to the computer and transfer contacts as an Excel (or spreadsheet) file, you'll be all set. Also, see if your cell phone company can transfer contacts from the old phone to the new phone for you. Once they're on the Android phone, they'll automatically sync to your Google account, and you can edit them that way.

Thanks in advance .

Just picked this up from another member tonight and it worked great for me.

Best way to re-enter entire contact list?

My contact list got very messed up when the list was transfered over from my old flip phone. There are way too many problems to be able to go through it and make edits. I think the best thing I can do is completely start over clean. What would be the best way to do this?

I have a gmail account that was created when I got the phone a month ago but really have never used gmail before. Can I enter a new contact list in gmail on my computer and then somehow copy the list to my phone?

Would I be better off using another program that would sync with the phone? I really want to be able to enter the names and numbers on the computer first because obviously it is way easier then typing on the phone. Thanks for any help

You got it, go into gmail and add your contacts. Then on your phone get into settings / Accounts and Sync / select your gmail account and make sure the checkbox for for Sync Contacts is selected and you are done.

hope this helps
