2.3 GingerBread for Captivate[discussion]

well i know for a fact,, that the sony erricson x10 just got 2..1 and others are still on 1.6..

and my email to skype told me that it will be working on the captivate very shortly when i upgrade to 2.2..

and 2.3 just gets released and people want it already

people need to rememeber android is new,, carried over many platforms,,,

its no boring apple with only one phone,,,

if anyone didnt think there would be growing pains with this OS,, need to have another look,,

and if your GPS doesnt work,, send the phone back as my phone is just over a month old and GPS works fine,, only lag is with bloomberg app so far,,,

so there is definetly a fix,,,

boohoo on here isnt going to do you a ounce of good,,,

W ell those figures can be misleading because 90%+/- of those phones not on 2.2 yet are because hardware didn't support it. The X10 is an exception to that, and the rumor is Sony nearly has 2.2 ready for release. The fact is that there was no excuse for the Galaxy S series to be launched outdated like this to begin with, and no excuse for it to have taken a year to write the source code for it...

If you want 2.2 go find a custom ROM. Otherwise you can wait until AT&T gets around to giving you a software update on a phone they already sold that has features like free tethering they don't want you to have. Good luck with that.

And good luck finding a custom rom that works half way decent. Yeah, good luck with that. Great rom, too bad my bluetooth is flaky, my wifi works only half the time and I get an SOD every day.

Maybe I wouldn't be so.mad if samsung would quit worrying about new phones and would put some support into current models.

and what makes you think they havnt been,, just maybe, when new FW gets released,, it will work properlly and no bugs,, i would prefer that then the option of release earlier and make my phone crap,,,

as there is no problems with my handset what so ever

Seems the epic got it just fine... seems the i9000 has had it for some time. Seems they were abke to.spend time making flexible led screens and new nexus galaxy s phones and resetting broken gps settings instead of...

Fixing gps
Giving us froyo after missing multiple release dates
jacking up the vibrant with a bad update
by the time they do give us froyo ill already have the nexus s and will have unlocked it for use on att.

Att is getting a ton of blame for us not gettinf froyo but is it really them or is samsung just to damn busy doing other crap to give a damn because they had their biggest 3 quarters in cellular sales in company history? Seems to me they just got another huge payday called the nexus s who gives a crap about the captivate.

Improved copy & paste is reason alone to desire 2.3. Some of those other items could also be of value to us Captivate owners, however.

Yeah, I forgot about the copy & paste bit from earlier today, that is worth pressuring Samsung for because it is one of those used-everyday UI things that to have withheld would just be cruel...

In twelve months I will be phone/carrier shopping. Two names to cross off my list are ATT and samsung.

I don't really mind at&t's network, but I feel like my next phone, if it is android HAS to be stock android. Not so much to avoid the bloatware, but to get the updates and support from google. Samsung probably screwed up with the galaxy s line, but i doubt that the nexus s will have the gps or lag issues of the galaxy s. I hope google wouldn't settle for something like this in their next flagship phone.

I see that you are in syracuse, me wife and I are from syracuse/oswego. We live in cincinnati now and att is absolutely awful here. 3G is non existent downtown and our phones don't work in our house. We live in a suburb.
When we are in upstate ny our call quality and data speeds are top notch.

ok,, if you are that heartfelt about,,while on here.. dial the toll free number to samsung,, and if everyone starts doing that, it will have a impact,,

and as i have been saying since android came out,, if google doesnt step up to the plate and start giving swift kicks in the ass,, android is doomed to fail, due to fragmentation,,

any phone that has the ability to handle the latest and greatest FW should be made to on a reasonable time frame,, when it gets down to it,, this is googles market to lose,,

Not. As I've written before...

1. It should be illegal to use the words "Samsung" and "support" in the same sentence.

2. The next time you have the urge to call Samsung, opt for a root canal instead. It's more beneficial and less painful.

The sad part is that I'm not trying to be funny.

well after reading your post, i googled samsung canada, phoned the 800 number,, was on hold for 5 minutes(which i find totally acceptable),, got a live person she said she had no idea about update if or when and for me to keep checking the website,, I told her that was unacceptable and i wanted to speak to someone higher up about lack of information to the customer,, so i was transfered,, on hold again,, maybe 10 mins,, was on with a manager and i was informed that Rogers and Bell customers will recieve update middle of december, then i questioned about being 2 FWs behind and future updates past 2.2 , the reply was there is no formal announcement as of yet,, but after all carriers have 2.2 out,, there is a announcement prepared, and also said that this phone is not a short term project

so i found samsung canada to be very forth comming and helpful
