Just got my Droid yesterday and I'm really glad I did. I've got MotoTorch LED and Weather and the WIFI widget on it already and have already sync'd my work Outlook Calendar through Google GMail and did the "export Outlook Contacts to .csv to Outlook Express to .csv to Google to the Droid" trick.
I've got more functionality in that phone now than I managed in 3 years with my Treo WinMobile 5.0 phone. Just lovin it!!! And a very big thank you to all of you or I never would have known this stuff existed, much less how easily it could be accomplished.
I was thinking about a new Windows Mobile 6.x to replace my Treo 700w. I've been programming for a living since '82 or so and for the last 15 years have been using the Microsoft Developers environments so Win Mobile seemed like a natural fit but then I started reading about the Android environment. Open source code and documentation seems like a really cool idea, particularly with all of the enthusiasm you folks show for the platform.
I've already downloaded Eclipse and the Android Plug-In and am starting on the documentation. I mean after all, how hard can Java be if it doesn't use pointer arithmetic???
With teenage daughters and numerous other commitments I'm not sure how much time I'll actually get to spend geeking out with the developers kit but I'm really hoping there is some play time available.
Either way, I just wanted to say hi, and to pass on a big thank you for the information I've already gleaned from this site. Here's hoping I'll get to contribute some back as time goes on.
