Facebook Notifications

Searched this...but no real answer.....hoping for an expert to chime in...

Will there ever be a time when we get facebook notifications in our "notification bar?"

i do right now. though they are not always on time.. or there. or predictable. but thats not the phones fault. the facebook app lacks A LOT on the android system.

open the facebook app... menu---settings---> make sure you have notifications active.

there are third party alternatives like Bloo - Native Facebook (Free) v1.3.1 Application for Android | Social that might work better for your needs.

The only facebook notifications I get in the notification bar are facebook e-mails. Nothing else. Ever.

i get them for messages(emails), and friend requests... i haven't seen any other come up that i can recall.

but then again the only options in the FB app are: Messages, Pokes, Friend Requests, and Event Invites. So maybe a third party app would notify/annoy you more...

You have to go to the website if you want only certain friends messages and posts sent to your phone or all of them. And theres other options too. I took it out cuz its annoying. And true the facebook apps suck. But if you go to the web browser on your phone, and click FULLSITE it will bring up the actual facebook website instead of the mobile site version which sucks. Cuz nothing is ever updated.

I did start getting PROMPT notice, in my notifications bar, after installing Asurion's beta AddressBook yesterday. Only covers those in your phonebook, but it's all set up during install. Versions are currently available only for Android 1.6 and 2.0. Works a treat on my Droid (Twitter has beta problems though-- otherwise, smooth and delightful).

Not related to dev-- just luvin the app!

You do NOT have to use that form. Running a search on > addressbook < in the Market should get it, unless your device is below 1.6. Note: two different versions-- one explicitly for 2.0, and the other for 1.6.

Bloo does give you the option for notifications other than the lame choices on the installed FB app~ inbox mssgs, pokes, friend requests and event invites.

Bloo will notify you of comments which is what most FB users would like anyway! you have to choose how often to check for notifications, every minute, 2 min, 5 min, 10 min, 20 min or 30 min. so you can set it to 1 min, and it pretty much is instant notification.

ive only been using bloo for about 2 days, since i just heard about it, and so far its going ok. i dont like that the pictures come up as green squares, like they are taking a long time to load or something.. but it is better that is actually more like an app than the stock FB app, which that is more like a shortcut to the mobile site. that aggrivates me.

and still, you cannot sent private messages with bloo. and i havent figured a way to go to a link someone has posted .

FB has a long way to go still on the droid (or is it android in general?) , but im sure someone will figure out something soon. hopefully we will soon have a FB app similar to the iPhone app with the addition of instant notifications :)

Here is something to think about. The native Facebook app appeared in the market last week. Could it be that we may start seeing updates to it? And if people keep commenting about including notifications in the comment section of the market app I'm sure the developer would have to take notice.

The app works as it is designed. If you noticed the only options for notification are: Messages, Pokes, Friend Requests, and Event Invites
So it will not notify you for comments on pictures or posts or statuses. Which I think are the important ones. Maybe in a later update they will address.
As for Bloo, you cant send a inbox message but neither does the standard app but at least you get all the other notifications
