A couple of days ago i was low on memory so i decided to take the plunge and root my device with a custom rom and take advantage of apps2sd+ This all worked out fine and gave me the the space i needed. The phone was showing around 140mb of free space with most of my apps installed and from titanium backup i could see that the partition was being used. However after a couple of days i have noticed that my internal memory is back down to 16mb. I have cleared the caches and dalvik cache. The only thing i have done since the change in memory is move my sim contacts to the phone, moved the apps that can be moved to my sd card and installed a few new apps.
Is there an app i can use to see what is taking up all the memory? if not how can i rectify this problem?

I have cleared the .... dalvik cache.

Its on your SD ext so not sure why you did that.

move my sim contacts to the phone,

yep that takes up data storage space. How big is "Contacts storage" now?

moved the apps that can be moved to my sd card

WHY??? Please read the apps2sd+ FAQ located in my signature. D'oh

Is there an app i can use to see what is taking up all the memory?

yes, Android. Menu>Settings>Applications>Manage applications. Menu>Sort by size. This will show you the biggest apps.

Also, do you use HTC Mail?

Sounds like the A2SD did not work properly or files are still being installed to the internal memory.

How many apps have you installed as I am on DeFroST 6.1 with 88 apps installed and still have over 85mb left on my internal memory.

Did you partition your SD card to ext2 (or ext3 or 4?)

What ROM are you using? Did it have A2SD built in or did you install the zip file?

Let me know and we'll get this sorted.

Sounds like it is working as titanium reports it is being used and his internal memory shot up toMB.

However a mixture of a runaway app and misuse of the functionality are probably the cause here.

Found it, contacts storage = 97mb. Is the a way of saving them on the sd card to use?
When i moved all the apps i could using apps2sd does this still take up my phone memory? is it best to just use apps2sd+ and make sure they are all stored on "phone memory" so it uses the partition? Was a little confused when you said it was silly thats all?

Yes, leave all apps on Internal memory. Apps2sd+ script moves it to SD EXT, including dalvik cache. Move to SD via froyo is irrelevant

Not sure about contacts....

I'll take advantage of this thread and ask a related question:

I also installed app2sd+ and I got a question:
Using Quick System Info:
A2SD storage: Total 457MB, free: 242MB
Internal Storage: Total: 148MB, free 36.66MB

Is it normal? should even look at the free internal storage are just check the A2SD storage to know how much free space do I have to install apps?

Thanks

Yes it has risen slightly now to 7.19mb but no where near the 97mb it was before.
It must have had something to do with google contacts as it was showing i had 600+ but i have no idea where they all came from? i backed up all my phone contacts and deleted the google ones. How did they even get there? i've noticed its showing 40 google contacts now...

Is there a way to see what is where? (i.e what is on the phone, what is on the SD Card, and what is in the SD card partition?)

I know on Titanium Back Up it will allow you to see the amount in each area, but not specifically what is where.

If you use Menu>Settings>Applications>Manage applications. Menu>Sort by size it shows what is on your "Phone" (i.e the Phone and the SD parition).

Any ideas?

I generally hover around 50-60mb (depending on when I clear my Cache), judging from posts, this seems kinda normal?

Even Quick system info from the Market will still only show you what's in use. Something that would as you say show you what's where would be useful.
