On IRC right now and it appears that folks all over the USA have recently lost data service.

Just got off phone with Verizon, nationwide data network is down (outage) and will be repaired after the 8AM "full service support" arrives to diagnose. At this point there is no known cause. Press release to be held after 8AM conference calls.

Odd that you would say that. When I looked at getting a plan with Sprint, it was no cheaper if I wanted a smartphone.

3G was not down. Only the web browsing portion of their service suffered the 5 hour outage.

If you call vzw and gripe out the service being down you might be able to swing a 10% credit to your bill for the next 6 months

I'm glad I was asleep during the outage....

I think it raised such a stink even though it was only unavailable for browsing because that's mostly what we do. A lot of developers have gotten really brazen about repackaging a targeted web interface and calling it an app. (I know that it technically is an app but if you're really just displaying the web page without the browser like that nonsense that Facebook was trying to pass off a year ago, I just don't see it as an app. It's just a window to me.)
