hi!

i have a galaxy s and just recieved a message from samsung saying there is an firmware update available for download, presumably froyo. so i download kies and installed that, not sure if its just me but it seems like a poor bit of software, extremely glitchy! anyway when i click to update software the 'firmware upgrade' window open but it says
'No response from server. please check if your internet connection is activated and try again.'
has anyone experienced this before, found a solution, got any advise?

my phone is currently running
baseband v. i9000xxjf3
build number ECLAIR
firmware v. 2.1-update1

thanks
jestaa!

I'm a noobie here trying to figure out if I can update my phone.

I am also in Asia. Shanghai, China to be exact. My phone is JF7 and PDA IS JF7 and CSC is OZS. It is an unbranded I9000 bought at the grey market here.

When I try to plug in and upgrade it says "This device's version cannot be updated." Does this mean it is just not available at the moment or ... never be available for my current firmware? I'm not sure if this is a hacked firmware or what, not familiar with the codes. Will I have to root my phone? I'd prefer to do it through Kies as no warranty from the grey market if something were to go wrong. Thanks

I have also tried logging into my VPN to pretend I was in the US with no luck. I thought I remembered reading that it would be available everywhere by November 11th...

This is incorrect. I'm in Hong Kong and we already have official 2.2 Froyo. From what I've read, Taiwan also has the same Froyo.

tempest7,.....you wanna tell us where you're getting your info?...and also where you're getting your 'official' 2.2 firmware.

Anyone know how I can find out if 2.2 is available here in Thailand?

Thanks for the follow-up.
Is Froyo more energy-hungry? What procedure, (link), have you follow to upgrade to ZSJPD? Does it worth upgrading?

Before the upgrade I was still at about 45-55% after a day of moderate usage. Now I'm usually around 10% by midnight.

As far as the upgrade, do a quick search for odin to flash. It was super straight forward and took less than 20 mins once everything downloaded. I got the firmware download from News - site. Good luck

I'm having the exact same problem. Also bought it in Shanghai (yesterday).

Did anyone figure out how to do the upgrade anyway?

I can't update my firmware, either, using Kies 1.5.3.10103_102. When Kies tries to prompt a list of devices for upgrading, it says "No response from server. Please check if your Internet connection is activated and try again." I've got an unlocked i9000 imported from Hong Kong to Auckland (best price in town); it's connected to my laptop through wireless and also on a 3G network (the phone shows up on the pseudo-desktop in Kies, etc.).

UPDATE:

I was able to update my firmware. I had to use the NZ Samsung website and download its version of Kies. My new problem is that I'm getting a laggy interface after my update. I benchmark at 1030 with Quadrant.
