sim network unlock pin?!?!

Can anyone help me... i recently lost my samsung galaxy s and my insurance sent through a new one however when i turn the phone on i get an error message "sim network unlock pin" im with orange and they cant seem to help me, they keep putting it down to a faulty sim...they are now sending me my third sim! im getting really fed up as i have been with out a phone for over a month, who do i need to speak to about this or how do i get it resolved once and for all?

Thanks in advance

Thank you, i have had a look at those links but i still dont understand what this error message actually means

does this mean that the error is to do with the handset rather then my network provider or my sim? sorry, its probly me being really dumb but i dont understand all the technical talk i need a guide for dummys lol :)

Thank you

If I understand what is discussed in the links there is an incompatibility issue not between your phone and the SIM card... but between the GSM radio in your phone and the carrier. If your phone were rooted the solution might be to install a different version of the radios firmware. Otherwise the logical way to resolve it seems like it would be for the carrier to provide you a different phone.
