Root 3.340 Question - Rooted

Im in a similar boat - I moved the apps, and now moved them back but I get an error message when updating from the SD card. Long hex number. nothing about a file or anything. (already fixed a few misnamed apks, as well as restored voicesearch.apk which i guess since it didnt update this afternoon correctly was all fubared)
any ideas? or do i need to SBF?
Will there ever be a way to update without going through the recovery loader or OTA? IE: an update.zip that bootstrap will install sans questions?

I'll take you up on that offer to learn how to do a restore, that is.

Okay. Follow the directions here:

http://androidforums.com/droid-x-al...ing-custom-rom-theme-how-unbrick-droid-x.html

Specifically the unbricking directions. Replace the sbf file given there with the one from The Black Hat, which upgrades you to 2.3.340 or whichever one you want.

You're set. Let me know if you need further clarification.

im on 2.3.15 and used RootMyX2. like an idiot i deleted bloatware and i dont remember what app i deleted so i can restore them. what do i need to do to be able to update, what are the steps?

thx-bud

If you follow the steps above and use the sbf file indicated in the thread, it will restore you and all your apps to 2.3.15 complete with bloat. You should backup your stuff using Titanium first, so you don't lose stuff you want. :)

I don't know the answer to you question, but I can tell you that sbf will make things right for you. It's something that is good to know and to do. It gives you a clean start and will allow you to update to the new ota.

Last time i did this - i deleted bloatware, and then the OTA 2.2 came along and I couldnt do it. This time i thought Id be smart and keep everything. doesnt seem like its helped :p
Will there be a non-Ota update that wont need these checks? (tbh perhaps?) Seems like moto/google is putting a lot of work into making these updates only for stock phones :p
