Hi,the resaon for the post is that i have had a bad start to owning a Desire,Mine came on saturday from t-mobile but from straight out the box i couldn,t get it to load to the main home screen,it would either get as far as the pink circle or i get the white background and htc logo and then it would shut down. After trying most of saturday i gave up and phoned t-mobile who are sending me a replacement tomorrow. My worry is that after reading this and other forums i,m going to get another with the same issues, there seems to be a few problems ranging from hardware -overheating-faulty motherboards or faulty sd cards and they seem to happen within 2-3 months of having the phone,Is there anyone who has had a desire from release date with no problems?

Hundreds of thousands of people.

People come on forums to complain when something is broken. They don't come on forums to say 'Hey, everything is great!'. If the phone works, 99% of people don't post on forums. Therefore they're always filled with pessimistic people with broken phones, and are NOT representative of the user base as a whole. :)

Couldn't agree more. I'm one very happy Desire owner!

(Looking forward to the version 2.2 release of the software in September!)

Hope you enjoy the phone! I certainly do. Worked straight out of the box for me no problems. All my google accounts synced day one. Beautiful.

Main grip is battery life but after some tweaking of settings generally get it to last the full day (and I use the phone a lot!)

Other piece of advice - Don't install a ton of apps right away. Check the forums and reviews. Some do seem to drain the battery or cause the phone to heat up really quickly (e.g. Dolphin Browser - pity cause otherwise that app is great).

I don't have access to the paid apps so cannot comment on any of those or the quality (Singapore based and only free apps so far...boo)

But anyhow, I use all these free apps and they have been on my phone for some time now with no problems. Tried plenty of others that didn't suit me but these stuck. If you find any apps that you really like let me know!! :D

  • Evernote (to sync with my evernote account but now I am increasingly using Note Everything for most of my notes, lives on my phone and syncs with my google docs account)
  • Note Everything with NE GDocs for google account syncing
  • Ghost Commander (file utility)
  • Got to Do Lite (syncs with Toodledo - a web based todo application)
  • Rockplayer
  • Jorte (alternative calendar application - works fine, great reviews, only thing no sending calendar events by MMS, which you can get in the native calendar app)
  • Blackmoon AttachSave which adds the functionality to save attachments to your SD card to the native Gmail app already on the phone
  • Share contacts via SMS, adding the functionality of sending a contact to someone else via SMS
  • Bug Me! Lite (for taking quick handwritten notes to remind me to do something in say 5 or 10 min time)
  • Brightness Profiles (quickly change brightness settings - can save your own custom levels in addition to the preset ones)
  • Thinking Space (mindmapping, a bit fiddly but OK for basic stuff. Still not using it that much)

Hi all,

I have the same problem as LincsBri - to trust the hundreds, which complained, or trust the hundred thousands, which don't. However from what I read the problem is a hardware (motherboard) heating issue, and I'm concerned, that there are so many faulty pieces out there. An eventual repair would take a month where I leave, which is really.. to long I think. So does anyone know if one can check somehow the .. i don't know - the revision of the motherboard, or something that could point right from the beginning what to expect regarding this problem.

I'm about to bay the Desire and this is the only thing stopping me. And as at many other places, the devices are harder to find with every hour.

Other from that - I was expecting this model more then 2 months now, and it looks great! :) I really don't what to wait for another..

Hi,well i have tried it out for a hr+ and it all seems fine, only gets warm when browsing the net,its coming out of sleep mode fine and not shut down on me so all looks oki, just need some apps and a good game and i be happy :)

Were you able to check if the motherboard is a new revision? If so - which is it? The fact that it's still getting hotter when one browses the net is waring me, but I have never used a smart phone before, so I don't know if this is normal or a problem

I'm still waiting to see if there will be some news about the rebooting issue, but when I wrote to HTC, they said it's only rumors and that there's no problem with Motherboard overheating.

Hi Macpoc,i don,t know how i would tell about the motherboard, but i can tell you its a Rev B so its certainly had some update,I got to say this phone is really great don,t worry about the warmth form surfing the net its not that warm just enough to feel it,Its nowhere near the first 1 i had so i don,t think it be a problem.Overall this is a really good phone well happy now and you learn something new on it everyday :)

I got my Desire from T-Mobile in in August. Great phone very happy until about a month ago when it started to reboot for no reason. To start with it would once a week but eventually became almost continuous. Removal of battery was the only way out. Phone went away for repair and came back yesterday after 10 days away with a note saying that they had done a software reload. Two hours after getting the phone back the same problem started again. Took it back to the shop today. Does this sound like a mother board problem?

hi mabentley sounds like uve got the same problem as i had originally and it need a new motherboard fitted by htc, beware they take a long time on the turnaround for the repair they aim for 5 working days but it took 3 and a half weeks from collection to return.
also ive had none stop trouble ever since such as wont send texts all the time when ive got full signal and conected to 3gs???? so orange sent me a replacement which is a reconditioned handset was havin the same problem but this time it developed 2 other intermitent faults, 1- everytime i made/answered a call it automatically went on to loudspeak, 2- when using htc headphones music was full blast so i turned the media volume down to nothing using the volume button on the side of the handset and the music was still full blast???? received another reconditioned handset from orange as a replacement yesterday and its faulty too!! screen keeps freezing for 10-15 seconds when playing games, same problem with loud speaker, when i switched my alarm off this morning only half the screen was working and another new 1 was replying to text msg's last nite and once i finished writing the msg the phone decided to delete every letter i'd typed took 3 attempts to write the text and be able to send it

can any of you's expalin any of that please lmao

If i were you I'd demand a brand new one (not reconditioned). If that fails escalate your complaint to the executive office. They WILL sort it properly.

already in the process of doing this but cos the numtey i spoke to a week ago didnt log all the faults i reported when i phoned up to report the loud speaker faults i was told i can only have a new 1 once ive reported the same fault twice, not happy

also cant have a brand new 1 which they were gonna send eventually because there not in stock and guess wot there not getting them bk in stock either, i wonder y????

so am now trying to get a completely different handset of a similar spec(any recommendadtions) other than that its contract termination time with no cost to myself

your call orange
