An app for: Signal calming? Sports schedules/alarms? Custom vibrations?

OK, so maybe I'm just not entering the best key words for my searches, but I'm trying to find the following in some app's:

1. An app that tells my phone to stop searching for a signal 24/7

-24/7 being the key part here. I know I can put it on "Airplane Mode", but that's not what I want. I guess inside the walls of where I work, signals are hard to come by.

- Therefore, my new Android phone is CONSTANTLY searching for a signal and it is pulverizing my battery life. Any app out there that tells the phone to settle down and stop looking ALL the time? The thing is, I have a few news feeds that I still want to come in, so I don't just want to turn it on Airplane mode because then I get nothing and then I also couldn't stream Pandora :(

2. An app that allows me to "download" a sports teams complete game schedule, then puts that schedule in my phone's calendar program (meaning, I do not want an add'l calendar program just for the schedule) and then ALSO sets up an alarm for EVERY game to sound off at a specified time

-This way, I'll never miss a game!

-The alternative would mean having to set a manual alarm for each and every game on each day. Lame!

3. Custom vibration app

-Trying to find an app that lets me set custom vibration settings, times, durations, beats, and set/assign to when certain people call/text, or when certain updates get sent to the phone (i.e. i have the ticker display).

---------------------------------

Also, random question, do those battery saver app's really work? Or are they gimmick's and the real thing a user has to do is just pay attn to what is running, lower brightness etc.?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

I can't help you much with 1 and 3, but for question 2, I'd suggest MySportsCal.com - Download Sports Schedules to Outlook, iCal, Google Calendar. You can download Google Calendar files that you can import into your GMail/Google calendar (I did this on a PC and a web browser), and when your phone syncs, you'll have them on our phone. I get an alarm 10 minutes before the game starts, as well as an email to my GMail account.

Hope this helps!

Your phone will always search for a signal, If the signal is good, then it locks and stops looking, but if the signal is weak, it has no choice but to keep searching.

Edge signals penetrate deeper than 3G, so you might want to try this solution to force your phone to Edge. This *should* keep your signal lock *if* Edge is stable where you need it. And you can still stream Pandora

Poster above me wrote about the Calendar you need. Another option is to install Live Scores (and visit the thread in this forum. Developer is very active.)

It will self-start and notify you when teams you selected as your favs start play AND depending on the options you select, you'll be notified of scores per period, per quarter, etc. Quite cool.

Not sure if there are apps existing in the Market that does this. But you could probably program Tasker to do this for you.

Yep - for the scheduled games, the thing which came to mind was finding a calendar published for the teams in question and import that to your google calendar.

For the other two needs Tasker will let you do exactly what you want - i.e. you could make your phone go to airplane mode for 15min (or whatever) and then wake up to sync messages before another timeout. This could even be location and/or signal strength dependent - this would be tricky to get right and save power - try not to use GPS or "wifi near" much as they will turn on gps/wifi to check if they apply. I would set the conditions ("contexts" in tasker parlance) to be that if you were within the general area of your work (based on cell tower proximity which doesn't really use any extra power unlike wifi and gps) and if your signal strength gets below a certain threshold then tasker would set airplane mode for a specified time and then wake up to check for messages and see if you're back in a good signal - if not, it would go through this cycle again until your signal is above the threshold... And Tasker can do custom vibrating alerts (see attached)...

Wow. Tasker seems to be very involving. Before I spot $7.00 for it, will it allow me to set a custom vibration for, basically, as many things as I want? As in, a tweet = vibration pattern 1, a phone call = vibration pattern 2, a text = vibration pattern 3, and so on?

Thanks to those that pointed out Live Scores as well!

Yeah - custom vibrations for phone calls and texts are built into tasker, for tweets, you'd need to set your twitter client to post a notification to your status bar, and in tasker make the task activate on tweet notifications. I just tested this by setting a custom vibration for a notification from google voice, and upon recieving a text to GV, I got the custom vibe pattern, so you can set custom vibrations for any event which can post notifications to the status bar (twitter included).

OK last thing I would like to know if Tasker can do...

Is it possible to tell it to sync with my at home wireless router when it senses via GPS that I am in fact at home? And then have it disable WIFI when it senses via GPS that I am not at home? Because that would be crazy cool.

At least...I think it's the last thing I would want to know ;)

Yep - I wouldn't do it quite that way since using GPS all the time means it has to turn the GPS on periodically and get it's coordinates which tends to eat battery life... I have my incredible do this by checking location by phone network (which isn't very accurate, but doesn't take any extra power), and if I'm near home it then uses the "wifi-near" check to see if my home ssid is near (which periodically turns on wifi to check so uses a bit of power) and if it is in range of my network it turns on the wifi. There are a bunch of discussions around on how to use Tasker to efficiently check location without killing your battery, but the short answer is yeah - it'll do that...
