how many bytes = 1 gig

Know this is dumb question but i need to know.

I used 3,330,500 bytes up and another 2,000,000 down. How close am I to 5 gig usage on my phone

Hey sixtythree dude!

Hmm i think it's 8192 mega bytes in 1 gigabyte dude (1024 multiplied by 8), but if you use Gibibyte then it is exactly 1000 mb not 1024 (I think) I think i have mixed these up though ahhahah lol :)

Byte comes from the words "by eight".

Woopsy!

Sorry i am not thinking dude! :D My bad here it is:

if you want bytes then it is 1024 times 1024 times 1024 = 107 37 41 824

Hahahah sorry my bad for that!

No...

1024MB in 1 GB... there are 8 bits in a byte

8192 MB is 8 GB

And Byte is not a combination of "by eight" :)

Its always 1024, its based on 2^10, 2^20, 2^30, etc
1024 bytes = 1Kilobtye
1024 Kbytes = Megabyte
1024 Mbytes = 1Gigabyte
1024 Gbytes = 1Terabyte
1024 Tbtyes = 1Petabyte
1024 Pbytes = 1Exabyte

The newer international standard is to use KiB, MiB, Gib, etc to differentiate computer from the scientific of 1000 using k, M, G, etc (k has traditionally been lower case with the rest upper but when the KiB standard was decided on they changed k to upper case to be consistent with the rest).

Other side of the decimal point is milli, micro, pico, nano, femto, atto (assuming I spelled those correctly)
