Swype (beta) disappeared

Since last week Swype has disappeared from my phone (HTC Eris). It was there but not accessible. No setting could see it.

I uninstalled and tried to reinstall it using the Swype installer. It requires log in
using credentials I obtained when I received the beta. But the login no longer works and on the Swype site there is no mention of a beta or even of an app for sale for the android platform.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Does anyone know what is going on with Swype?

thanks

Yeah! Upon its introduction it was hailed as the best thing since sliced bread, but it seems awfully quiet now, doesn't it?

Swype has been hinting that they will not release a product in the market, period. They want to release on new phones only. If your beta expired and you're looking for something new to try, consider Ultra Keyboard. Not free, but not much $$$. It can be configured to "swype" or not, and function differently in portrait and landscape. Worth a look.

Fine beta page: it says the beta is closed. Not even hinting at a forthcoming formal release.
That doesn't bode well for Swype, imo.
Can you post links to any beta pages that have hard release dates on them? They're extremely rare in my experiences with betas -- even more so if you've used any Google beta product (known for indefinite betas).

The Swype beta has opened and closed several times since its inception. There are plenty of betas that offer even less information. Many don't even have any information publicly posted on the company's site.

Why would anyone even look back at Swype when they used the consumer to test out there app and then yanked it out from under our feet so they can make big bucks selling it to phone manufacturers?

Mostly because it works great. Such is the situation of any beta. They are generally free until they go gold. After that it is priced. This isn't at all different from a vast number of programs, OS's, etc. out there...

Thrawn, if you still have the installer, uninstall swype and the installer and just reinstall. I've had the same message pop up after switching between 2.1 and 2.2. After uninstalling, rebooting, and reinstalling, no error message.
I just lost my SWYPE a couple days ago, and when I clicked on the app I get a message to uninstall and then reinstall. I do not have my installer anymore (lost? deleted?). Is there a way around to get it back? I loved swype.
Thanks, GregoryV

if you syill have your login details for the swype site then go to
https://beta.swype.com/android/get/ from you phone and download the new installer.

Run it then login then you can access the new beta that was released a few days ago :)
