Take out the battery for a few minutes then turn the phone back on. Also, review the forum guides to make sure you post in the appropriate section. This section is to introduce yourself to the community. This post should be in the thread related to your phone HTC Desire - Android Forums

I can't see how this would help... If he takes out the battery, the phone turns off. When he puts the battery back in, the phone wont turn on because the power button don't work.....

Hi, this is probably an old thread, but I had the same problem with the desire HD, happened suddenly installed nolock as a tempory solution, and was going to take it in under warranty for repair. It is caused by a stuck power button.
Heres how I fixed mine. As a last resort, I removed the battery sim card cover and battery cover so that all I was holding was the Ali uni body section. with my finger and thumb I began flicking the chrome button with my nail, as if you were flicking a pea accross the table, after about 30 seconds of flicking the little chrome button popped out slightly, when holding it by your ear and pressing it you can now hear a click.
Maybe a dust particle or something from my pocket caused mine not sure, but it was moisture or software related. Hope this helps someone who maybe hasthe same problem.

Paul.
