The htc evo 4g, i hear people say that u need to pay for the 4g hotspot feature, but isnt there a app that google has out, that once your android device has been rooted you are able to use the tethering app, isnt that free 4G tethering right there. You could use visionary to pretty much root the EVO, if iam wrong please let me know.

Yes, its called Wireless Tether. It will allow you to tether wirelessly if you are rooted.

Yes you can use the 4G network. Generally, however, people tend to only get 3G speeds even while on the 4G network. There is a fix that has been reported to work with some (I am one of them). Using root explorer, I deleted "fixroute.sh" from the system files of the wireless tether app. You do not need to do this via root explorer, but it worked well for me. By the way if this screws anything up, just delete the wireless tether app and reinstall it.

I know the app is free but, it should be detailed they dont tell u what version is for what phone.

I just need to know that has the issue been fixed, if so what version of the tethering app works for the evo with the reao 4G speeds.

I'm using version 11 on 4g right now w/o any problems. I'm getting 5.73MB down and 1308kb up right now... according to the app anyway.

Version 11 umean the tethering app u need to be more detailed where i at the app at, becuase i dont think a tethering google app even has a version 11

I use speedtest.net to check speeds and was only able to get 4g speeds by doing the fix I posted in my earlier post.

Go to the link posted in post #3 of this thread, once you get there, there are links that show which version ( labeled pre 8, 9, 10 , 11, etc...) work for which phones...

in fact... here it is...android-wifi-tether - Project Hosting on Google Code

Once you get that link open, find EVO on the page ( it says 2.1, but works for 2.2 s well) now click on the download link, now you will see all the different versions that are available for download. Now is where you have to do some trial & error. when I was between ROMS, it took me 5 trys to get one that would work.
*tip if one doesnt work for you, uninstall completely before trying a different version. ( learning that took me several more trys.

LOL you really need to be more detailed step by step because i got root explorer where do u go to delete the file that you are referring too. file by file step by step, because i want to tether with the 4G speeds.

If you are referring to the possible fix I discussed earlier, I will give you a quick guide of how to do it using Root Explorer.

1. Open Root Explorer
2. Select "data"
3. Select "data" again
4. Select "android.tether"
5. Select "bin"
6. Long press the file "fixroute.sh" and either move or delete it. (if you prefer you can move it to the sd card or something)

That should be it. This fix has been reported to work for some (including me) and not for others. If it screws anything up with your wireless tethering just uninstall wireless tether app and reinstall it and it will be back to what you had before messing with it. If you prefer using adb via your computer instead of using Root Explorer, here ya go:

adb shell
su
rm /data/data/android.tether/bin/fixroute.sh

i used the super manager (app i found in the Maket) to do what u said and there is not data folder in the first step u posted.

Also please let me know what u used (The apps name)
