Its not official yet.

Been on the new Froyo 2.2.1 update several hours now.

I disabled Voodoo lagfix, flashed with Odin, factory reset, flashed Chainfire Root (restores 2e recovery, clockworkmod compatible, and Roots), Titanium Backup to restore apps, and then a while getting everything up to speed again. No lagfix yet, will see how it goes without for a while.

So far impression are very favourable indeed.

Speed is really very good, but then it always is post flash, although thats with ~95 apps installed after Titanium was done, so still gives me a good feeling about how this will perform over time. I'm getting ~1100 on Quandrant with this one, for whatever thats worth.

Lots of little bugfixes that I really like in here - default player now reads playlist files, setting custom ringtones to individual contacts from the default player finally works, I read that subtitles now work in the video player, 339MB RAM free at boot on this firmware. TouchWiz seems a lot more decent, although I quickly got LauncherPro Plus running of course, but it now has the Sense-styled leap view (and you can rearrange the preview cards, which is nice and needed in LauncherPro). Press Reader app works.

Sadly still no LastFM scrobbling with the inbuilt player, so I guess its still WinAmp for me at the moment.

They still haven't fixed the camera app so that you can turn off geotagging if you wanted to, its enabled by default.

There is the usual post-flash enthusiasm for the GPS at XDA, will see how it performs tomorrow with Run.GPS now that I'm cycling to work again (on JPK I found it fine for navigation, but it struggled with tracking activities this week - it was either fine or awful, restart would fix it though).

Browser speed is improved, but now get the dreaded checkerboard pattern on scrolling before pages fully load, and they still haven't fixed zoom reflowing properly. Overall I'll take the speed though.

Only app incompatibility casualty so far appears to be BattStatt, which just sits there saying loading the whole time. Will email the dev (brilliant text widget for battery).

I think the really interesting point underlying this is that Samsung are still working on new firmwares for this phone, which surprises me and is quite encouraging (although of course I wouldn't expect to see this officially for a long time).

...oh, and forgot to mention that this one appears to add OTA firmware updating...

i installed xxjpu from xxjpo, i was happy for a day. my observations; improved gps lock, faster, battery efficient, option to update ota. however, i had to revert back to xxjpo when i got home because xxjpu could not connect to kies (my contacts and calendars are on my notebook), cannot root using z4root, could not read/write in the root system (when i tried to upgrade swype), some of my purchased application could not be found in the android market, cannot fix android market using sgs tools, etc. etc. jpo seems to be smoother with voodoo lagfix.

Just flashed my SGS with 2.2.1. Now I need to restore my stuff using Titanium Backup.

Is it advisable to do a complete restore or just the apps + their data? The reason for asking is that I imagine there is 2.1 specific data within my backup and I don't want this upsetting the new firmware.

I believe you should only restore apps and their data, a full restore will probably cause problems.

Yep, 1250 stock, but still only 1750 with OCLF.

Is it worth even installing lag fixes now?

I don't really think so, its running so well stock on JPU. I found the phone became a little erratic on JPK with the Voodoo beta, so I'm thinking at the moment 'if it ain't broke don't fix it'. If it starts to lag again I guess I'll revisit that, but at the moment I can't really see the point.

Been running it since last night. Much MUCH better than the crappy 3 UK 2.1 I was using.
And I can just download and install 3's version of MSN Messenger and Skype from their page and they work just fine.
All in all, very happy now.

Oh, and Quadrant shows 1880 with no OCLF applied.

I don't think so, with stock it should only be scoring around 1250, do you have any other lagfix enabled?
