I hate the lock screen on the Hero, I know their is a way to turn it off, but i don't like getting a message and then the phone doing something in my pocket.
Is their a way to extract the .apk of the lock screen from the droid, and just install it on the hero, I understand that the resolution on the hero is different, but hate the current lock screen, i have to slide it down 2-3 times for it to recognize.
I downloaded lock 2.0 already on the market, its not bad. but it takes 3-4 seconds on my phone to actually give me the slide to unlock screen.

not to mention lock2.0 is a battery hog. Also it's a program so if you use a task killer like I do, you have to re-enable the program to use it.

but I doubt the lock screen is merely an APK.

For that matter, is there a way to disable the slide down lock screen altogether?

Thats true with the task killer.
And i think if you go to managed applications it does list HTC lock screen there so you could uninstall it from their but of course it would be permanently gone. I just like the droids lock screen, and don't feel like waiting til the next update. And your probably right its not just an apk.

You dont need the task killer with phone. You will have memory loss with it. I tried using those task killers and it was destroying my phone. The apps will close on there own.

This may be a big hassle and high priority for us but not for Google. Please vent your anger here also Issue 4784 - android - Google credentials don't unlock phone after failing too many pattern attempts - Project Hosting on Google Code

Not always. I've heard that BS as well since I've owned my Hero. I went without a Task Killer for awhile but my battery would drain ridiculously fast on occasion. I'd go into the task killer hours after I had last used an app and it would still be open along with 20 other things that had no reason to be open.

Sooo, a task killer is a good thing to have...even if you don't use it religiously.

on-topic: I'm looking for a good lock screen replacement too. Tried Lock Screen 2.0, but as has been said its a battery hog. I reallllly like the iPhone slider though. *sigh*

apps "open" in the background in linux based OSes do not consume significant CPU cycles, and even though they may have blocks of memory allocated, they release it just as fast if it were "free" memory when needed.

Only misbehaving apps in linux benefit from the use of an app killer or task manager style app.

I wish there was a way to do this because I have the same issue with the lockscreen not recognizing my swipes. I like how you can silent the phone quickly too. Hopefully someone finds a way to do this. I don't even know that when we get 2.1 that htc will even keep that lockscreen

When you receive a call, you can instantly silence the phone by pressing the volume down hardware button.

I found something that is working great.
Its called lockbot their is a free version.
and a paid version it has the android 2.0 lock screen and it disables the hero lock screen.

The paid version features the 2.1 lock screen and lets you use the android unlocking with the pattern, where as the free version has only a number code.

plus the free version has an iphone like lock screen, the only bad thing is all the buttons will wake the phone up and prompt you to unlock it v. just the menu v. end button on the normal one.
