Facebook for Android 1.5

Facebook for Android 1.5 is in the market now. Suppose to have chat. Let's see it that works.

LOL.. I had chat already on trillian so that didn't really bother me.

I want to see the release notes and see what they have fixed. Want to see if the sync with contacts has been fixed (only sync existing contacts not everything).

I just got it before you posted it. I am about to try it. I will report what I see from it.

One thing I have noticed from first look it doesn't show your groups that is on Facebook.

Its just basic chat. If you back out of facebook it alerts you when someone sends you an IM

The chat seems to work pretty well so far as I have seen. Just basic chat. I had been using Go! Chat Facebook that aligns itself more to the facebook chat from teh actual site.

When I create a chate group on Facebook, that group populates on Go!Chat.

I wish it had push notifications for phones under 2.2, they said those are the only ones who get push. My lowly 1.6 Zio cant get it and while it will upgrade to 2.1 sometime in the next month (prays) its still not 2.2.

What are we supposed to get notifications for? Seems as if people are being notified for more than just the 3 items with checkboxes listed in the app. Do we get notified of EVERYTHING that you get notified us when visiting the facebook site itself?

All i can say about current 1.5 update is CRAP..total crap.

I am using Samsung Galaxy S running Froyo 2.2. Here is the bug list.

1. Login to FB from PC and open chat. Now click on "Go Offline". Now open FB app on phone and open CHAT section. Your friend list will not load even after waiting for 30 min on a 1 mbps wifi connection.

2. CHAT UI is simply crap. Now we have 3 groupings , "Active Conversations" , "Available" and "Idle". We don't need grouping at all simply show a single list with GREEN color on right for Active(not idle) and Orange for Inactive like we have in Gtalk for Android.
Also , if we are chatting with any friend , Just make same UI change in the Single Main list to indicate it ass Active chat.
In-short, just mimic what Gtalk for Andorid app does. Keep It Simple Guys.

3. CHAT is not working and need proper testing. try this.
Login to FB from PC , start Chat. Now hit "Go Offline". next, open FB app in mobile and enter chat section, Your Chat friend list will never ever load friends. it will simply show "Loading......"

4. Sound notification for Chat is not working. I am 200% sure that i have set a tone to notify me of incoming chat.

5. When i enter FB app on Phone , give is option to auto-login to chat or not. and notify us about same.

6. if we enter chat and return to home screen, i get logged out. WTF is this ? I am supposed to be logged in chat.

7. PUSH notifications : All i can say is "WTF" !!!!!
Reason: PUSH on iPhone and BB is REAL INSTANT. And if its TRUE Push , why do we see "Refresh Interval" option in Settings section ? If its PURE PUSH , we don't need this at all. If its for those running OS < 2.2 then fine.. However , if i choose ""Refresh Interval" at xx hours and set "Notifications to Active" and ticked all below options , I am still not receiving any PUSH notifications when i am on home screen. However when i enter the app , i get it. Is this you call PUSH ?

Dear Facebook, Go and test your app before you release it to the masses.

All,

There seems to be some issue with Push Notifications and the new Facebook for Android 1.5. If you sift through the FB page about the App and filter out all of the questions about what Push Notifications are, there is an underlying theme, that for the most part it does not work.

There are people with Droid X, Incredible, Droid 2, Evo and Nexus 1, etc...that report that they have it working but most others, with those same exact phones, post that they do NOT have it working and the "not working posts" FAR outweigh the ones that say it is working!

Of course nobody is required to do this, but I am asking, as an Android Community service, that anyone who is certain that PN is working to post the following:

1. Phone Model
2. Software version (Push should only work on 2.2 or higher)
3. If you're rooted (possibly list your ROM and Kernal)
4. If you are running a home replacement (Launcher Pro, ADW, etc...)
5. If you have FB for Android in your application permissions when you log in to FB from your PC.

My suspicion is that it is tied to the "Application Permissions" page that is in Facebook and not necessarily the phone the App is installed on, but I am just speculating. So, In lieu of the App Dev responding with a fix for something known, I thought we could try to spitball here and possibly nail down what the cause may be.

I am confident that this community can at least narrow it down!

Also, this list is just from the top of my head of things I assume would impact an app working on one phone and not another of the exact same model phone....PLEASE feel free to suggest additions to the list and I will update my post!

EDIT: Sorry, I did not have FB for Android in my list of Facebook applications. I thought I did.

My phone is NOT working for push notifications nor does it post to my wall if I do a status update. My updates post to my profile only...

It should have been created when you first logged into Facebook from your phone/device.

Well I have searched and searched and have not been able to find a solution to reinstall it on the applications section. The only thing that other users have been able to do in order to solve all of their issues with Push Notifications and status updates not going to their wall was to create a new facebook page which I refuse to do. If anyone knows how to reactive the facebook app, please let us know. I have also tried wiping my phone and starting over factory fresh.. nothing works.

For people who don't have it in application settings in facebook, do you have facebook on your phone in settings->accounts? I don't.

I can add it the motorola version to accounts, but then it downloads all my fb contacts to the phone and I don't want that.

Also, in testing earlier, I did get notification for a wall post, but then when I just tested a few minutes ago, I didn't.

So, since I got that 1 notification and I don't have it set up in fb applications, maybe it's still something else? I'm going to test more in a bit.
