Dropped my phone for the first time tonight, of course, shattered the screen. I'm on an employee plan, and I have the monthly insurance. My sister (a sales rep), said that sometimes they will be able to replace it through the store for free, if not, I will have to pay 90 bucks for a deductible.

Who has gotten their phone replaced for free, or who has had to pay that 90 bucks? Any feedback would be great.

Somebody correct me if my wrong, but I'm pretty sure the only way you'd get out of paying a deductible is if it's arguably a problem covered by the manufacturers warranty.

My girlfriend and I have the Verizon insurance for both our phones. It's like $5-6 a month for each phone. I haven't dropped my Inc. yet (knock on wood) but when I had my Storm, I had that thing replaced probably 7 times without paying a dime. Now they DO give you a refurbished one, but you can get as many as you need. Not sure what the policy is if you have an AMOLED screen? If they give you A REFERB, or an SLCD... I've heard they have a stock of refurbed AMOLEDs for original owners. So the moral of the story is get the insurance. Definitely worth it!

For my previous phone (LG Dare, official phone of people who pre-ordered Inc) I got two free refurbs from Verizon for issues that were not me breaking it. I think if it's lost or you obviously broke it, you gotta deal with the insurance. One of those times I'd dropped it and the screen just stopped working, but there was no visible physical damage so they took care of it.

But for things, as someone said previously, that are not visible damage - IN THE PAST - I've just had them give me a refurb that day. Not sure if that will be the policy for smartphones too.

This is not how my insurance with verizon worked unfortunately. A few years ago when I had my LG Dare I kept leaving it in my pants pocket and the maid, of course, never checked. I think i washed it two times and got it replaced twice and then they took the ability to insure it away from me. I was kinda surprised, but it did make me very careful from then on.

To make a long story short, I would not rely on being able to get an unlimited amount of replacements. Apparently it varied from store to store.

now that i think about it. With all of the Dares i went through, it is amazing that i never had to replace my Eris. Hopefully i will have the same luck with my incredible.

The insurance actually limits you to two replacments it's right in the contract . Now Verizon has replaced my phones numebr of times in the past with refurbs and not making me pay a dime if it's not functioning properly and I think they do a real painless warrenty replacment they usually don't even ask questions they just send me another phone or go to the store show them the problem and I leave with a new or refurbed one

I have had verizon insurance on various phones for years and have payed the deductible countless times. When i bought my phone from bestbuy the guy was telling me about the insurance they offered and it is way better. You pay 2 dollars more a month and get unlimited replacements no matter what for as long as you pay for the service. On top of that there is no deductible. It really is better than verizon's insurance, but i am sure you have to buy the phone from bestbuy.

It is not better than verizon's. For starters, they will attempt to repair anything they can BEFORE replacing it. So you might be out a phone for weeks while it's off being repaired. They will only replace it if the phone is beyond repair.

Moreover, it doesn't cover lost/stolen phones, and it doesn't cover water damage (atleast not submerged phones).

if they decide they can fix it, they will give you a temporary phone so you are not without a phone and it does not last for weeks.

Yes but they do not give you a smart phone replacement. And if you use your phone for business that is unacceptable. They also don't cover water damage and that is one of the most common problems.

Not to mention they pretty much try to fix everything.

Do a search on the forums and you quo see a ton of horror stories about Best buys insurance.

While your looking at it, check with your insurance carrier (state farm, for example, offers great plans in done states), and square trade (google them, I don't know what their website is offhand). If you want insurance, those are the best deals out there.
