just wondering if anyone knows how quickly that company (grr can't think of the name, starts with an 'S') usually pushes out one of these extended batteries from the time the phone is released? i hate watching my battery guage deplete so quick.

also - you think the new OS / updates will help overall battery life?

i was also curious as to if there will be a 'seperate charger' in which you could purchase with a new battery and have sitting as sort of a spare when you need it - i know the blackberry has this but i haven't heard anyone speak of one coming? is it inevitable?

Siedo is the company, and they are already working on extended batteries for the Eris and the Droid. The only problem with an extended battery is they have to make it thicker, so they also have to design a new battery door. Then they will develop an extended battery cover for the phone.

As for the "Separate Charger" I saw one online the other day. Let me see if I can find it again.

Actually Seidio also makes OEM Size extended batteries... They are working on this for the Eris now.

That I would like to see. LiPo batteries are built in layers. Since they can not make the batteries longer or wider due to the physical size of the battery compartment they HAVE to make them thicker (thus more layers) to make them bigger (higher mAh). Do you know how much more storage they can get in an OEM size battery??? MAYBE 200 mAh. You gonna pay a $20 dollar premimum for 200 mAh?

Want proof? The extended life battery for the Droid is almost out. There is even a picture of it. It is a thicker battery with a new battery door.

Siedio makes a 1750 for the hero, they claim it is the same size as stock, no extended door required. The hero comes with a 1350 stock. I know its a different phone but it is very similar.

Ok--so make that 350 mAh. I am still not calling that an extended battery. That is a slightly higher capacity battery. Double the mAh to 2400 mAh and I will be happy.

3,500mAh!!

I called them about 20 minutes ago and was told that they didn't have a definite ETA but that the batteries would be coming out sometime in early January! The 3500 mAh battery will add from 3-4mm in thickness and does and comes with a new cover.

I did ask about pricing, but they were not able give out that info just yet. Hopefully in $60-$80 range - which I think is worth it! I will have to buy a new case for it, but that's fine by me too... :D

As I surmised above--about 200 mAh over the OEM battery. The 3,500 mAh battery will be the $65 pricetag range if they price them like they do for other phones.

Funny story, crazy really:

I told myself that it was going to be a Christmas gift. I promised my wife that I was going to wait 'til Christmas to get it.

Well... I've had the Eris for over a week now. I have kept my promise though. It is going to be for Christmas on Christmas. We have two little girls and we don't want to have them see Daddy playing with his new Christmas toy while they have to wait for all their stuff. We also don't want to ruin the "magic" of Christmas for them... not yet anyway.

I have been sneaking it around the house and taking it to work to learn the ins and outs of it and I've been using WiFi to download apps and have it all snazzed up and ready to go for that magical moment on Christmas morning...

And yes... it is SWEEEEET... and it's killing me not being able to use it fully!!!
