Well, what started out as a fun side-project and challenge (see this thread http://androidforums.com/droid-x-all-things-root/224281-even-possible.html) from Android Forums own Steven58 resulted in an actual app: BattMonX ;).

Some of the folks in the above thread were surprised that they hadn't heard about this app before. I had posted a thread in the Application Announcements forum (http://androidforums.com/applicatio...state-monitor-via-led-status.html#post2027223), but neglected to in the main Droid X forum. So, I wanted to let those that don't frequent the Droid X root forum to know about this too.

Its an app (free in the Market) that will turn on the LED indicator on your Droid X to a selected color based-upon the current battery state (charging, discharging, charged, or low-battery).

Lots of other Android phones do light up the phone's LED when charging, but for some reason VZW/Motorola neglected to include this behavior in our beloved Droid X.

Anyway, for more details and screen shots, check out the announcement thread above. I hope you find this app as fun and useful as I do.

Cheers!

I don't really care if the LED is on or not when it's charging, but I'll install thuis anyways because, well, I can!

Lol! :D Thank you for the support! :)

I'm a little worried about my poor little power and home buttons on my phone from testing this app out so much (especially the set-on-boot functionality)...

Cheers and Merry Christmas!

holy blackberry batman!

You don't know how long I've been waiting for someone to make a "Batman" reference. lol, I took a lot of grief from my daughter (who made the app icon from my directions). I was just trying to be mischievous and make a play on words (pun) when I had her put the Batman logo on the battery image (she didn't want to--she just rolled her eyes :D).

Didn't think anyone had noticed...;)

Using latest update. Couldn't get the charging light to go out after unplugging from a car charger. Didn't have this problem with an AC charger. Strange.

How long was the polling-interval set to?

I've had mine set to 5 minutes (300 seconds) before and it will not change the LED status until after its next checking cycle (i.e., up to whatever time duration is left in the current polling-interval).

Let me know if you want or are willing to do any debugging or view what the app is doing: its pretty easy with the aLogcat (free in the Market) app...I've got lots of debugging messages that you can see what the app is doing; just set a Log Filter to "BattMonX" and the "Level?" to "Debug" (via the Preferences in the second (More) menu page).

Thanks for the feedback and let me know if you have any issues or questions. I'm happy to help.

Cheers!
