Will the Tab get Honeycomb?

Hey guys,

I bought the tab with the understanding that it will "eventually" get honeycomb. Now after doing some more searching it seems like the Tab WON'T get it?

Do any of you know for sure one way or another? With the supposed Motorola 7 inch tablet that will have honeycomb being rumored for early next year, I was thinking about returning the tab and waiting for that. I am happy with the tab, but am intrigued to what Honeycomb can do for the tablet.

I don't really care too much about the Tegra 2 as the battery life and performance have been great. I just want to be able to access tablet only apps. Just like Apple blocks Ipad apps on the Iphone, I dont want to be blocked when the tablet focused apps come out for honeycomb if the tab is stuck on gingerbread (or heaven forbid froyo still).

Thoughts?

the current galaxy tab will get gingerbread later in 2011 but the current gen tab will not be having the honeycomb. next year theres going to be a bunch of tabs with galaxy tab brand which will be having honeycomb.

all this was confirmed by samsung officials recently, it was posted on engadget too on 2 september 100%, you do the googleing tho lol

I totally hear where you're coming from. I bought the Tab from Best Buy about 3 weeks ago but i took it back because I couldn't justify the $599 price point and I actually prefer a WiFi only version of the Galaxy Tab....but with this weeks announcement of the Verizon version price drop to $499 off contract at Best Buy I again found myself contemplating purchasing the Tab. I held off on buying it for the reasons you've stated above,...While I do think the Gal Tab is an AMAZING tablet I can't justify the purchase with CES around the corner and Honeycomb on the way and it being the version of Android optimized for Tablets. Another thing that deters me at this point is that Samsung is showing a lack of zeal to keep their Galaxy S line of smartphones updated to the most current version of Android OS...I don't want to buy the Tab if it's going to take Samsung 6 months to update to 2.3. especially if at CES they are going to announce a WiFi Tablet running Honeycomb for early 2011. I'm gonna wait until CES before I jump on the Tab.

What do you mean no honeycomb? No one has said that...

If they release a wifi only one running honeycomb, don't you think they would also update this one too? Wifi only will be cheaper than wifi and 3g, why would they want to push people to the cheaper option.

I really don't understand why people want a wifi only one. I mean I bought mine full price from Tmobile and well I hade to buy a prepaid $10 100MB 7 day pass, but now i dont have to buy passes anymore I can just use wifi only like I am doing; plus now I always have the option to temp go 3g while im on a roadtrip or something.

And as for Honeycomb I cant say for sure but my thinking is that we should get it...I mean if the online readings are correct Honeycomb will be made for tablets.

I'm a little fuzzy on exactly how the Galaxy Tab will get it's updates. My EVO has a section under settings called "System Updates".....the Gal Tab seems to be missing this section. I don't use my Tab 3g so I'm hoping updates don't roll out over (in my case) Verizon's data towers. Anyone know anything about this?

Thanks

I'm sure we will know more once CES is underway. Don't forget, regardless of whether we get an official release or not the guys over at xda will make sure the Tab gets Honeycomb...I'm not the "Rooting" type but for Honeycomb on my Tab...I gotta say I'd have to root. :D

I agree for an Android OS that is said to going to be make to fully make good use on all the Tabs features(Honeycomb) I to am willing to root my Tab also if need be.

I am not sure but the Market update for the Tab came OTA(I believe) so if that is the case I would assume that Tab gets OTA....That's my assumption anyway.

Doesn't kies search for firmware updates that otherwise may not get automaticaly pushed to the device? I'm new to Samsung but it sounds like you have to have Kies to get frimware updates. I'm not sure if OTA's will come normal or not.

Mostly all in all kies is mainly for Samsung Galaxy S i9000 and the European Tab because they dont do OTA, but tipicially the US versions have OTA.

People usually flash the US version to the European thereful they need Kies to get updates mostly.
