Hello folks

Cracked screen just got my fresh new evo.

I've got about 30 apps and tons of settings is there anyway to transfer this?

What about my mobile hotspot and all that is it going to be activated on the new phone then the old one is going to lose that ability? I might need the net to transfer things!

Hello folks

Cracked screen just got my fresh new evo.

I've got about 30 apps and tons of settings is there anyway to transfer this?

What about my mobile hotspot and all that is it going to be activated on the new phone then the old one is going to lose that ability? I might need the net to transfer things!

I've used Appbrain for this purpose.

1. Go to www.appbrain.com and register. You'll need the google account that you setup on your phone.

2. Download the appbrain app from the market.

3. Sync from the appbrain app on your old phone. Now you should have a list of apps on your phone on www.appbrain.com. You'll now have a list called apps on evo or apps on phone or something similar.

4. Create a new list, called backup or something simlar and copy all apps from the list that's on your phone to that new backup list.

5. When you get your new phone, install the appbrain app on it.

6. Go to the appbrain website, clear the apps that are on the apps on your phone list because that was for your old phone.

7. Sync from the appbrain app on your new phone.

8. Then go to the website again and copy all apps from your backup list to your apps on phone list.

9. Sync from the appbrain app again and it should have a list of apps you will need to install. It's somewhat of a manual process to reinstall everything, but better than searching.

Now, I'm not sure why >>I<< had to do it that way, but for some reason, when I try to sync from a new phone to the apps on phone list i had previously, it just wipes the apps on phone list. Thats why I had to create a backup list beforehand... You would think that you wouldn't have to do that, but in my case my whole app list got wiped before... it wasn't fun. Hopefully this helps anyone that's had a similar issue.

If the screen is unusable, try creating an appbrain account from a PC from the appbrain website. AppBrain Android Market - find the best Android Apps and Games I'm unsure if it'll populate your apps without having the appbrain app on your phone, but it's worth a shot.

As for backing up the "settings," I've seen people discuss different apps/programs available that'll backup content, but not sure if that includes any themes/settings that you've put together on the phone.

I know LauncherPro has the setting where you can back-up a lot of the settings you've made (w/ exception to widgets, I believe).

If there's an actual app that'll allow you to save ALL the settings/themes you've made on your phone, I'd actually be interested in that as well. In other words, an app where you'd be able to download the app, go through a setup process and restore all the original settings. That would be awesome if there is such an app.
