Help Skype, Amazon, Slacker, etc. Keeps running and won't shut off!

Sup guys, I just installed the 2.2 update on my Incredible. Don't know if it's me but it seems a tad bit slower than the last OS. I'm also noticing on my Advance Task Killer that I have Skype, Amazon MP3, Slacker, Kik, and other applications open most of the time without even touching the apps. Also pressing KILL all applications does not do the job! I gotta hold the application and press force stop myself.

Also earlier today I noticed I got incoming and missed calls from people in my phonebook, but when checking my call logs, it doesnt show their name it just the number and thats it.

So if anyone else is experiencing this please or has a solution to this please reply back. Thanks guys!

Get rid of the task killer, it's fine they are starting up. You are doing more harm than good with it.

Programs "open all the time" is not really a problem. Just because they are open does not mean they are using the processor.

Task killers were not a great idea before froyo. With froyo, they do a ton more harm than good.

its not a problem, the programs arent really running. download system panel, then look at those apps and the CPU cycles they are actually using

Don't worry about it, the structure of the opportunity costs associated with running programs are completely different than in a 'traditional' OS. Or so my more intelligent friends tell me ^^.

Seriously though, in response to party of the OP's question, without rooting there is nothing you can do about those apps 'running'. Nor are they really hurting anything being inactive in the backround. I'm with howarmat on this one, Systempanel will enlighten you

Of the apps in question, they all reside in memory and use no CPU, thus no using any battery life. However, I have seen issues with Skype Mobile. It's rare, but if you sign in with Skype (the Android app, not the Verizon exclusive one), then sign out and close it, Skype Mobile will sometimes cause your phone to not sleep. In this case, force close and you're fine. It doesn't happen every time, but when I do root, it will be the first app to go.

If you don't use Skype at all, then Skype Mobile won't give you any issues.

I am becoming extremely frustrated with a large majority of people claiming that the new Android OS's are doing good things by having useless applications "open" and "waiting". Claiming that they are not using any resources or battery.

I'm sorry, but the cake is a lie. Every time my system becomes sluggish is when Skype, Amazon, or some other application process appears in the background.

Guess what happens when I force kill or force close these applications? My system begins to speed up, so explain to me how is that possible?

My system runs perfectly fine while these applications are not running. It is nerve wracking to get phone calls or try to use Google Maps and these applicationso are causing my system to become sluggish.

When I click it is when I want it to do something. Since when have we been okay with a program having a mind of its own?

My girlfriend is constantly saying my Droid sucks or is slow. Extremely frustrating to be an avid Android fan and lover. My Droid was lightning fast prior to Froyo's new task managing that stopped Task Killers from working properly.

it's not lies, open the source code up for froyo up and you can see how froyo manages tasks for yourself... If you phone is operating slow and killing tasks helps it speed up, that's generally a symptom of something else going on with your phone.
Don't call something lies that you don't understand just because your phone isn't operating correctly. Millions of other android phones work perfectly fine with android managing tasks.
Major causes of a sluggish phone are corrupt sd cards and poorly coded apps. Or if it really bothers you, you can root and delete the apps.

Android isn't stopping you, your service provider is. Android doesn't put the bloatware on your phone or stop you from rooting it.
Your service provider is coding the apps that way and android immediately caches them because it knows they aren't needed.(you can use the app "system panel" and see they aren't using cpu cycles). Generally this does not effect phone performance but depending on a variety of factors it can, especially if other poorly coded apps exist on the phone.

sdrawkcab25 is right. You're wrong.

The bloatware apps you're talking about DO NOT CAUSE problems in the background. They don't cause lag. Your problem is caused by something else. Either an app that you installed is causing them (which is most likely), or YOU ARE CAUSING IT WITH ATK (or whatever you're using).

There are many, many threads taking about the problems with taskillers, I don't feel like repeated that here. But I will repeat the suggestion to install System Panel.

The fact remains that with the new Android updates, we are no longer able to effectively stop a program from starting or doing whatever it feels like doing.

Did you do a factory reset after you got the froyo update?

Confused now, you said in your first post that you were killing apps. But anyway, you're right, it can sometimes be difficult to kill apps but that isn't android's fault, it's the fault of poorly coded apps. Task managing has gotten better with each iteration of android but that doesn't mean apps are keeping up. Sadly it's one of the downsides of being able to multitask. It's impossible to code an operating system to make up for the faults of app developers.
