What Tasker profiles is everyone using?? (This thread is NOT for requesting help with profiles)

Hey, I'm not sure if this has already been said but where's my droid is available in market and does all of the above.

Where's My Droid - alienmanfc6

However for a lot of people (certainly me :D) Tasker can replace this and numerous other apps, giving us more free space for other things.
I use Tasker to replace approx 8 other apps at the moment.

Ok, but which apps and where are the profiles to replace them ourselves? :)

After all, your sig DOES say "Monkey see, monkey do" ;)

  • Bluetooth Toggle Switch (in Notification bar) - currently disabled waiting on some 'to do' items in Tasker
  • Wifi Toggle Switch (in Notification bar) - currently disabled waiting on some 'to do' items in Tasker.
  • Missed SMS Reminder / Missed Call Reminder- based on wiki Missed Notification Reminder - replaces numerous market apps.
  • PIN Lock Delay (using plugin) - replaces standalone app
  • Remote Alert, Find, and Lock - replaces various security apps, based on wiki and forum examples
  • Sleepmode with Override for whitelisted callers - from wiki - replaces bedside clock applications
  • Automatic volume control when at work and in meeting (based on calendar items) - replaces various scheduled volume / profile apps.
  • Read SMS option when in 'Car Mode' - replaces various SMS reading apps
(note I have a highly complicated 'In Car' setup due to some peculiarities of my Seat Car Kit when it interacts with my N1 - I'm hoping that Gingerbread will help me simplify this a bit).

Nice List codemonkey, thanks. :)

I think Tasker could REALLY take off in popularity if profiles were easily interchangeable among users.

For example, if Codemonkey could hit an "Export Profile" and have it save as a text file, then I could put that text file in a Tasker folder and hit an "Import Profile" and have that profile work on my phone too, people would be exchanging lots and lots of profiles.

As it is now, people must explain what settings to enter into tasker to "give" a profile to a new user. Some people just aren't that versed in following even easy instructions. :)

When in Tasker, press Menu on your phone, then select Browse Profiles. There are numerous profiles to be downloaded and imported.

Every web page I've seen that has profiles for you has steps to enter profiles, not files to download, perhaps I'm looking in the wrong places. :)

It's not really a problem for me, since I DO know how to follow directions fine, (just ask my wife, heh) I just know there are others not good at it.

In many of the Tasker profiles on wiki, if you scroll down there are profiles to download.

After import, you typically still have to massage the profiles to your personal preferences.

For example, on this page, scroll down to the bottom for the DOWNLOAD link: Autoprofilechanger - Tasker Wiki

I absolutely love this profile. I don't have to ever change my phone settings manually. I had to doctor the profile after import, though, because I wanted the keyguard/key pattern on during certain profiles and off during others and I have the wallpaper change whenever the profile changes. The wallpaper is my widget in this case :)

I've got a profile button where I can select one if I want. I've got a battery icon that shows the remaining power and updates every 30 seconds. I've also got a keylock toggle in the event I want to do that.

But it was so cool to make all these that I thought about deleting some of what I did and redoing them to see if I can make them better.

I have got though Step 4 but how do I set an Exit Task? Is it something I do within the Task I setup in Step 4 or do I make a New Task and Call it "exit task" set GPS Off there?

Press Done in the task menu. Once you are back at the main screen, tap the task box that you just set up. A menu opens giving you the option to Add Exit Task.

New question. I have downloaded some Profiles and Tasks from WiKi to my Computer. To import them to Tasker do I need to place them somewhere on my phone or can I import from Computer?

On your SD card, in the folder Tasker\profiles. If it's not there, create it. Also if you download directly through Tasker, it creates it for you.

Your welcome :)

I wonder if anyone has managed to create a task to turn off the movie player (or movie app) after a set period of time. . .

Reason is, i like watching movies before i sleep but often I fall asleep before the end so i would like the app to stop after, say an hour, so that it doesn't keep playing and drain battery?

I understand that the kill app task is not working correctly after 2.2 and i have been unable to find a workaround.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hate to be a bother but I created my 1st Profile(I guess that what it is) last night that I Called Home. I set my location then add a Task to Turn my WiFi On and then Off as needed. How would I now add a New Task to the "Home" where I Turn Off and On my Data package?

Thanks

Tap the task window of the profile, up pops a menu, select Edit. Add the task by pressing the plus sign on the lower left.
You could try New > Net > Mobile Data > off.

Thanks I guess I didn't really create a Profile. I had imported one Profile from Wiki and I could what you said. But if try with the one I had Created that option not there. So I guess I need to learn how to create a Profile.

I'm not a tasker expert at all, but I'm thinking at the least you could set tasker to turn your display off after a certain time, that would help, I'd guess.

is it possible to trigger an action when closing an app?

I was thinking id like to turn JuiceDefender off, when i am streaming pandora music.

But then when i close pandora, can tasker also turn JuiceDefender back on?

Thanks

yeah

load app - pandora
enter task - kill app juice defender
exit task - load app juice defender

i dunno how well the 'kill app' action works
