connect to router

Not sure if this is possible or not.
What I would like to do is to connect my hero to the net but without using wifi or 3g as the cost would be to expensive. So is it possible to connect it directly to a router some way or another.
The reason for asking is that I'm going on holiday soon and staying were there isnt any wifi but there is a router but i dont want to take my laptop.
any chance of this working or not.

The only ways you can connect to a router is by:

1. Ethernet cable
- (not possible on mobile phones)

2. WiFi

You said you didn't want to use WiFi and routers use WiFi to connect to phones.

The way you connect to a router is the same as you connect to a WiFi hotspot

What I mean is it possible to connect my phone with a cable to a modem. The guy has internet but not wifi. I can use the connection but I dont really want to take my laptop with me. Its only for checking mail and skype.

Menu-wireless controll-wifi (Turn On) works for open wifi. or else if security enbled router the go to ....Menu-wireless controll-wifi setting-Menu-advance ...configure wifi and VIOLA .. u r connected

I know what you meant and already answered you.

Unless you can get a USB-to-Ethernet cable/adaptor you can only feasibly connect a HTC Hero to a router via WiFi

Usb to ethernet cable. Would this be plug and play or do I need to do some settings. As you probably gathered not computer savvy.

I don't think my post's answer was obvious enough for you...

I'm not sure you CAN get a USB-Ethernet cable.

you can get a USB lead with an Ethernet adaptor
USB 2.0 Ethernet Adaptor : Wired Network Card - USB : Maplin
then you have to plug Ethernet lead into that to a router...

not sure a router would find your device and it'd nead a shedload of leads.
