Root Best 2.2 Rom??

There is no quintessential 2.2 rom. The best answer to your question would be to try the main ones out and see which feels more comfortable to you. I'd suggest you try any of the following:

Tazz Froyo - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=733897
Nonsensikal - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=821021
Froshedyo - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=824160
KaosFroyo - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=685594
CELB Froyo - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=723263

I'm not sure what you mean by buggy, but it might be an out of date assumption. I've been using 2.2 for quite a while without any real problems. I'm currently using CELBfroyo and loving it. The new smartass governor works well and I think nonsensikal(my other favorite) has it now too. I would not go back to 2.1 personally.

I would like to know the best overall 2.2 rom there is for the eris, i know a lot of them are buggy but i heard some were decent..

I think a lot of it is just personal preference, like a previous poster mentioned. However, I've tried KaosFroyo v.37 and v.38. (Of the 2, I actually preferred v.37). Kaos is decent. I did find some lag issues as well as camera issues.

I've also tried CELB Froyo 3.6. I did find this ROM to be less laggy and more stable than Kaos. It had a nice clean look and feel. I still had some camera issues, however.

Currently, I am running Nonsensikal 12.5 ad I love it! It feels very smooth, without any noticeable lag. I've not had any camera issues thusfar (but I've only been running it a few days). Before then, I was running Nonsensikal 10.8.1 and found it to be very smooth and stable, although I did have camera issues and occassionally the phone would reboot itself.

These are the only ones I've tried so far. IMHO, Nonsensikal 12.5 has been the best. I still have not tried Tazz, Froshedyo, or XtraSense, so I do not know if I like or dislike these as of now.

I agree with KPG.
In addition I've found that FroShedYo is a nice smooth stable ROM, this is the one I'm currently running. Though I expect I'll give Nonsensikal another try at some point. In my personal opinion Nonsensikal and FroShedYo are the top two 2.2 ROMs right now. That is of course a VERY subjective opinion and you'll find many people who disagree with me. :)

There is no quintessential 2.2 rom.

This. Each has its own strengths and weaknesses.

I've tried a few, and I'd rank them as such:

Nonsensikal 12.5 (Black/blue) - Very fast and smooth (though not perfect, waking up can be slow and I'm still wrestling with the notification bar text). I'm sticking with this one for a while.

Kaos v38 - Fairly fast, some FCs, camera and gallery don't work well.

CELB - Slow, lots of FCs, I really didn't give this one much of a shot before moving on to Nonsensikal due to problems.

YMMV. xtrROM, while not froyo, is faster and smoother than any 2.2 rom I've found yet, and I would have stuck with that one if the texting were as good as froyo.

It seems like I flash a different Froyo rom every week (when there's an update) hoping it will be fast and smooth and I always end up back with xtrRom. I would prefer to use Froyo long term but I can't take the lag to open up the different apps.

I'm using Kaosfroyo v37 and I can't keep a browser open. Any rom suggestions? Or other suggestions?

Did you attempt to install flash? Flash is not compatible with Froyo cm roms or any non-sense based rom for that matter. It will cause the browser to crash if it's installed.

The smartass governor is actually in every rom because it's part of the kernel and They all use the same kernel at this point. The governor can be changed to any of the choices available in the kernel.

I flashed the latest CELB the other day and I really couldn't be happier. I tried KAOS before CELB but found it was not very smooth after having had xtrSENSE running like snot on glass for months. I have full use of the camera, wifi, and flash works like a charm as well... in fact I'd go so far as to say the web browsing was even faster than it was on 2.1... and I am using the stock browser. My only complaint so far is the lack of a full-page calendar widget like was available with Sense. If anyone knows of a good substitute I'd love some suggestions.

I use the Jorte calendar widget. It's 4x3 (all the way across and 3 rows down) then a click anywhere on it will make it be FULL screen.

Thank you very much, Jorte is awesome, exactly what I was looking for. Back to the original topic, I flashed Floyo Tazz 4 last night and I must say its much faster/smoother than CELB and I'm using the default ADW with both. If there was a fully functional Sense Froyo ROM I would be in heaven. They're close but not quite done yet.

KaosFroyo has a lot of potential, and had some features I liked, but it's really a PITA to get working correctly, and I found several apps that simply would not install, even with side loading enabled. I also tried FroShedYo and Tazz. Both had redeeming qualities, but also some drawbacks. You'll miss out on functions you're used to using on your stock ROM, or have to do some serious legwork to get those features back, at least in my efforts at installing them.

The latest xtrSENSE ROM is excellent, if you don't mind 2.1 ROMs. I highly recommend it so far.

My vote has to go out to TazzFroyo. I got the rom when I rooted it a while back. It had a couple issues that I didn't like...not knowing it was my task killer that was causing problems. I switched around to KaosFroyo and another Cyanogenmod Based Rom...all of that just brought me back to Ole Faithful TazzFroyo. The other's just didn't have what TF offered.

I used kaosfroyo from v25 up until v38 and loved it for the most part, except the aforementioned camera and gallery issues. When an update to the newest CM framework was taking to long (wanted the lockscreen gestures, which are fantastic), i tried CELB 3.9 but my phone did not like it, not even lagging as much as coming to a dead halt at times. it was probably because of the kernal, cfs v9 with smartass, though ondemand still didn't resolve everything. I'm on tazzfroyo v24 right now and i'm really loving it, fast and smooth with cfs v8 on demand and no issues with the camera and a better working 3D gallery. Works great with a few different themes too, as long as they're CM 6.2 compatible. The only problem i have is when trying to swipe away notifications, the phone reboots. not a big deal for me. i haven't tried froshedyo yet

I'm totally confused now. :p Thinking xtrROM with Launcher Pro Plus. Or will I lose Flash? so I should use xtrSense?

Well, so far XTRsense is standing the test of time for my wife's Eris. Running clean and good. Hardly ever needs a reboot. No weird lockups and everything works like you'd expect on an HTC phone. I threw ADW launcher on there and it made it snappier. So far so good.
