just got epic and i feel kinda bamboozled

Its official the galaxy s line is finished s should stand for sh#it because its just not the epic that's being delayed updates...T-Mobile is basically giving the vibrant away and att is offering the captivate for like 50 bucks its clear that these cellphones companies are losing money by people returning these devices because they just don't have the latest software updates on them and being with sprint I know that the epic is better than the rest of the galaxy s line but I just don't feel comfortable paying for 4g service on a phone that I am not getting 4g on and running an outdated software...that's why I'm thinking about returning the epic and getting the evo I had the moment now the epic and ill never get another samsung phone because of these update problems...I feel like once the epic finally gets 2.2 other phones with 2.2 will be getting 2.3 and once again we will have and outdated o.s.

So let me see if i have this right: our galaxy line (epic though since this is the thread) has the most kickass hardware out to date, and you are complaining that because we are still running eclair (even though some devices are still running donut 1.6 and cupcake 1.5), that we must be out of date already? Wow! If you truly feel that way, then take your device in and get the evo! Just keep in mind that each device has its pro's and cons. Epics only flaw is that it doesnt have froyo released yet. Big deal!!! But if thats something that will help you sleep at night, go ahead with the evo. It is an awesome "first" 60,000 color even though the screen cracks having, 1gz snappy when doing regular apps yet choppy when it comes to certain types of video codec media only showing, choppy video game playing processor,8mp with limited options camera having smartphone. While the rest of us play with our 16,000,000 colors samoled built ford tough thanks to gorilla glass screen having, 1gz fast like whoa be it regular apps or multiple types of video codec multimedia stock standard, sweet flowing video game playing handles whatever its thrown at it with ease processor, 5 mp but with wide range of options camera and the best qwerty keyboard around at the moment type phone. Just make sure that when we get either froyo or gingerbread (the nexus s is basically an sd cardless vibrant! It runs the same processor as galaxy s phones do)...don't b!t*h. Its not a question of if...its a matter of when.

All I can say is wow! People aren't getting froyo yet, and thus already bashing the phone. People tend to forget that the epic (as well as the evo) are two of the top phones out to date! But both come with minor flaws that people really need not cry about.

So let me see if i have this right: our galaxy line (epic though since this is the thread) has the most kickass hardware out to date, and you are complaining that because we are still running eclair

I'm not crying. I got my Epic and I love it but I think you're missing the point. Yes, the Epic and the Evo are the the top two Sprint phones. In fact, I looked up as many top ten smartphones lists as I could and, overall, the Epic really seems to be the highest rated phone around. Like you said, the Epic has the most kickass hardware around. I think it's pound for pound the best smartphone available, android or otherwise. Because of this, there's no reason why the Epic should be so out of date. That's why people are frustrated.

The ability to do flash and install apps to SD cards are big things. It just doesn't make sense that Samsung would create the Epic as basically their flagship device, get such amazing press for it and the galaxy S line, and then completely abandon them as far as support goes. The Evo got Froyo after a month. It's taken Samsung so long to upgrade to 2.2 that 2.3 is out now. This isn't how a company supports its flagship phone. This is how some second hand manufacturer supports an el cheapo POS phone that only a hand full of people bought. The fact that the Epic is such a great phone makes the update screw up seem so much more glaring.

Once again, I love my Epic. I chose it over the Evo ten days ago even though I knew about all the issues with the OS. I don't regret my choice because it was the right phone to fit my needs. Nevertheless, the lack of any info on an update and this whole debacle has really caused me to question Samsung as a company. I don't plan to buy any more products from a manufacturer who so poorly supports their flagship model.

Totally understandable. I do feel that way. I think it comes down to who is actually holding up the process. Samsung made the hardware, and they released the froyo update for several versions of the galaxy line throughout the world, as well as gingerbread for the nexus s. So i think somewhere between manufacturer to carrier (so they can put all sorts of bloatware on it that we will never use) lies a froyo on hold. I dont think that samsung is completely to blame. They did the same thing with the htc hero's. They also did the same thing with the moto droids.

Right now I blame Samsung because all the different Galaxy S phones are lacking the update in the US. If the Captivate and the Fascinate and all those others had gotten Froyo months ago and only the Epic was lacking then I would probably blame Sprint.

Totally understandable! Although i'm not that concerned about app2sd until i can get a 32gb memory card, lol since 16 gb is almost full already!

just wondering if anybody feel the way i do... its going on two weeks that ive had this phone and what i noticed is that other than pinch to zoom and a front facing camera i dont find to much of a difference between my epic and the moment that i had before.. now the main reasons i feel bamboozled is that the epic is running android 2.1 which is old software and im paying a 10 dollar premium for it and no i dont have 4g in my area, second i feel this is the problem i had with the moment last year, phones were constantly being realeased with android 2.1 and us moment users were stuck on 1.5...its the same thing this year with the epic, now i'm really considering returning it and getting the evo because i want something different maybe if the epic ran 2.2 it would be another thing but i'm not about to wait 4 months just to get upgraded to 2.2 when other phones will be on to the next version of android and we will once again have old software...the biggest reason i picked the epic over the evo was i thought by the epic being a newer phone it would have more life out of it than the evo but it seem like the evo is just getting started...they still play commercials for the evo and it just feel like the epic has been abandoned by samsung and sprint and i think i need to get out before its to late.. i know their is other features on the epic like swype and a super amoled screen but i had swype on the moment and that super amoled dont look to different from regular amoled to me

Because you have been bamboozled by Sprint and Samsung. Ditch the Epic and get an EVO you might NEVER see 2.2 or 2.3 get out now before its to late! I would do it in a second knowing what I know now.

datruth I totally understand where you're coming from and know why you feel the need just to rant.

To save everyone time here's the arc the thread will take from here:

YOU SHOULD HAVE DONE YOUR RESEARCH

SAMSUNG SAID BY THE END OF THE YEAR BY THE LATEST

SAMSUNG DOESN'T REALLY OWE US UPDATES

YES THEY DO.

NO THEY DON'T.

YES THEY DO, THEY SAID SO.

NO THEY DON'T. WE BUY PRODUCTS AS IS

ANALOGIES!!!!!!!!

ok we can end the thread now.

This should be the default first post in any thread griping about Froyo on the Epic. Despite the stickied Froyo News and Speculation post there's been a constant flood of "I'm trading in my Epic" posts that are all identical from the first post down to the last reply. Maybe there should be a stickied "GRIPE ABOUT THE EPIC NOT GETTING FROYO HERE" thread that these can get rolled into (or maybe just close/delete all of them?)

I'm a happy Epic user who clicks on the Epic subforum to learn about new news, tips and tricks concerning the phone. At this point I only click on the main subforum so I can get into the Epic subforums since this main section has become a place for new posters to gripe about how they didn't research the phone before they bought it and are going to trade it in for an EVO/Fascinate/Moment/RAZR/DynaTAC if Samsung/Sprint/Obama don't FIX THE EPIC!!!?!

EDIT - I want to officially thank Kelmar and apologize for being quick to the punch this morning. I just checked three other Froyo bitching threads and see Kelmar IS cleaning up some of these posts. Thanks for your hard modding work, Kelmar!

1) You're not paying anything extra for 4G service.

2) I'd actually recommend you wait it out until the HTC EVO Shift 4G comes out. I know most us wanted the EPIC for the keyboard. The Shift is basically an EVO with a keyboard.

3) If you want 2.2 so bad, you could easily get it today. I flashed DK28 onto my device with ease and I've never tweaked with a phone before. I don't see why people are so scared of flashing the update themselves then complaining about not having something they can easily get.

First off, I'd like to say that I agree, way too many people whine and complain about the Epic just because it doesn't have 2.2 yet. Second, the "going to trade it in..... if samsung/sprint/Obama don't fix the epic" almost had me in tears laughing!! (Trying to picture our president at a news conference on CNN talking about how the Samsung epic being slightly behind is causing detrimental issues in our country: "We must show bipartisanship and work together to fix the Samsung Epic crisis")
and yes I agree once again, Kelmar rocks as a moderater! Thank you for always shoing support and advice! :)

Lol, thanks... but there are PLENTY of users who hate me too.

I love my Epic, what can I say! :D

Ditto!!! And Kelmar, I'll tell you something that was once told to me, that I still hold as truth to this day: "If you have haters, then you are obviously doing something RIGHT!"
Just continue being you man. and on behalf of those who do appreciate what you do for these forums.. Thanks! :)

Well, I AM noticing you're not closing the ONE froyo thread where we're kissing your @ss ;)

I accept paypal too :p

Edit: Didn't see your post from this morning. So thank you as well. Feel free to report any of the threads/posts that are excessive or over the top. I don't mind if people complain/appreciate what samsung/sprint is doing with the update, but we really don't need it going on in 20 different threads.

Dude...buddy.... he did make some direct comparisons. He went way beyond the treatment by Samsung and Sprint. So don't go correcting where it isn't warranted.

Also tired of th Instinct rants. Why blame Samsung? Sorint touted it as an iphone killer, not Samsung. Sprint drives the updates, not Samsung. If Sprint dosn't feel it's a big dea", they won't get on Samsung about it. Once it was realized it wasn't a killer, and they f'd up, it quickly became yet anothher lackluster feature phone. So don't hang Samsung out for that one. Sprint should shoulder the most of that blame.

And...there are new threads like this started every other day. Most don't even know what they are complaining about. Very few people cite their specific beefs or issues on 2.1 and just have some love for b*tching.
And this guy"just" got the Epic. He's knowledgeable enough to come on here and post his negative rant, but he's not smart enough to research his purchase before buying and read through the forum. Sounds kinda dumb to me, or at least fishy.
Dude ..buddy ...

You missed the op point ..he was talking about how it was the same with the moment...on the issue of long wait for promised updates.

Not that he thinks that the two phones are the same in performance.

Read the op again

Well i read the first few posts then skipped to the end, my thought is that the phones are not in anyways the same. i dont have the Epic 4g yet but im getting it this weekend. i currently have the Samsung moment and i hate it, it was a good phone at first but then this past sunday i got to playing with the Epic 4G at my local sprint store for like 2 hours and its way faster and just way better all around.

so yeah i cant wait till i get my Epic 4G this weekend.

so i dont see why the OP has to complain about his new phone as its way better than the Moment, this coming from me a current Moment user for like the past year.

Dude why are you defending samsung for not updating their products you act as if somebody is talking about your mother...I'm talking about a device that was promised an update by the end of 2010 and its 2011 and no update..when you buy a device that's supposed to be as good as the epic you expect to have the latest and greatest software on it...I don't know about you but if somebody promised me something and kept on putting it off I'm gonna think their full of sh#it and not to fu## with them anymore

The only reason I defend samsung in the instinct situation is because sprint touted it as an iphone killer and created unrealistic customer expectations. Everyone wanted an iphone killer, yet it was just another feature phone. So if the product isn't going to live up to customer expectations why dump the time and effort into it when it's only going to get worse, like a snowball rolling downhill. Too much time playing the fish when you know you were never going to get him in the boat so cut bait and move on.

Other than that, i defended the guy's post, plain and simple. Said nothing about agreeing with samsung in case of the epic outside of people whining and not even knowing why. Just because they don't have something. Not because they can't do X or Y or Z. Those arguments I can understand. If you're going to sit on the soapbox, bring something to the table.

Exactly the reason why I stepped away from Samsung entirely and went with the new HTC EVO Shift.
The Epic besides the great screen, still running old OS,still running old processor and made by Samsung (uhg).
And the Shift was cheaper with an updated OS and processor!

And exactly how is the hummingbird an old processor? Its still one of the strongest processors out there to date? Basically people are complaining that "waaahhhh, i want 2.2. I still have 2.1....my epic sucks!" Some people out there are still rocking android 1.6! And even with 2.1, the epic still outperforms a vast amount of androids out there, including the evo and other "droids" on the vzw network. Awesome screen, awesome keyboard, awesome hardware. If you want 2.2 that, then do it yourself. People, it's your android, do what you want with it. Just stop whining! I'm fine with it being the way it is, until we start getting some dual core action happening! :)
