Help Phone says "storage space is getting low" ? WTF?

Ok so I just downloaded Angry Birds and Tetris and my phone pops up an icon saying the storage space is low. Please keep in mind I have maybe 4 games total on the phone and very few basic apps (advance task killer, facebook, weather, pandora, astrid tasks, wefi connect and espn sportscenter). Thats it. Nothing crazy and by no means is my storage full. Adcanced Task Killer says I have 71M free.

Ive tried deleting all my games and reset my phone. No dice. Tool bar still shows icon stating low storage. Now what?

Go into Settings, then Applications, then Manage Applications, not the running applications. You can order the list of applications by size and then delete the cache from the largest apps.

I recover, on average, about twenty or thirty megabytes that way every few weeks. Give it a try and see if it helps. The web browser, Google Maps, YouTube app, and a few others tend to be the biggest offenders. Let us know how it goes.

Ok im at the manage apps screen and everythings listed by size however no app I clicked on has any cache. Its all 0 and the button is grayed out so it cant be clicked. The only clickable buttons are to uninstall them. Ive checked everyone...youtube, facebook, etc. The only thing that shows a clear button in white is my contacts app and its for clearing data not cache. Very strange.

Ive also have been receiving these messages too recently. I do not have a lot on my phone and I try to keep my texts to a minimum and delete the threads I no longer have a need for. I have found that when I power down my phone, the message tend to go away. I am using stock 2.1. are these same issues found when rooted?

Rooting won't solve all problems, but it will give you full control over your phone

Im not expecting rooting to fix all problems. But anything is better than what I am experiencing now. LOL At least I would be able to move my apps to the storage card and quit receiving this annoying message

Well, if you are ready to root, there are many people that would help;) Post a question over in the all roots section and I'm sure you'll get some help, that's if you need any:)

Clear any Voice Mail you no longer need and THEN clean it's cache, either in the stock Manage Applications menu or through a cache cleaning app like Quick System Info.

Voice mails (or at least data about them) are apparently stored on the Hero in the Data for that application and not just on the Sprint VM servers. I had your problem, kept clearing cache and uninstalling things without salvaging any more Internal Memory. Then I deleted a BUNCH of voice mails and cleared cache again. Cleared up a few MB...enough to JUST clear the memory warning in my case.

Also, I'm trying to archive my gmail online and then delete all conversations from the gmail app...we'll see if that saves a bit more.

I was experiencing the same problem and have an 8 GB SDHC card with 7GB free...so I don't think that was the problem. I couldn't get it to clear for anything. I found your message and realized I had just downloaded Angry Birds when I started having the problem. Uninstalled Angry Birds and guess what...problem gone.

Thanks for your post. Helped me fix mine. Don't know why...but I am still all :D

Yeah the capacity of your microSD card really has nothing to do with the internal memory of your handset. You could have a 32 GB microSD card that is completely empty and still have low internal space.

The best thing to do is to get rid of apps you rarely ever use and clear out the cache for apps in the Apps Manager. If you are rooted and running Android 2.2, then try to move apps to the microSD card if possible.

Each application has specific amount of memory set aside on the ROM. If an application begins to come close to this limit you will start to see the low memory warning.

To permanently resolve this issue, move apps to the SD Card instead of phone. The key is how to do it without using apps such as Apps2SD which require rooting your Android phone. You do not want to potentially void the warranty on your phone now. Found this detailed article on how to do this.

Been banging my head at it for almost two months now. Finally resolved my issue
