Rooting htc hero

Like I mentioned it will take you longer to find the source of your issue rather than you flashing the RUU .5. .6 or .7 back on and then rooting again with Z4Root, IMO

I used z4root. However i originally tried to do it from the unlockr
.Com and it had me download an ruu however it kept saying usb connection error. Any other ruu ideas..?

I will say it again, if I were you I would simply restore my phone to original and root again, you would have resolved your issue days ago when I mentioned it instead of still try to figure out where you went wrong. I is too hard t know where you went wrong the first time, make your life easy and flash the RUU back and then when ready to root again we will walk you through it

Ok. When i unroot it goes back to giving me the option to temp. Root or permanent root. But i still have SU unlocked so maybe im not rooted correctly. Can you give.me a link to an RUU and rooting instructions. please and thank you.

Here you go,
Alltel Targeted 2.1 MR

1.Download file
2.unzip to computer
3.install htc sync (only if you don't already have it)
4.connect hero to computer
5.run RUU

Incase you cannot flash it because your USB won't read, you can try flashing it this way

1. Download rom.zip from here rom.zip - 4shared.com - online file sharing and storage - download
2. Rename rom.zip to HERCIMG.zip
3. Place HERCIMG.zip on root of sd card
4. Power off hero
5. Hold volume down and power on hero, let hboot load
6. Follow the promts to apply the update

Ive read into the link you gave me... and i scrolled and read through it and it came to some of the same instructions DonB just gave me. Yes I simplified it for you, and no you do want to go to 2.1 not 1.5, you can root from 2.1 with no issues once you get your RUU back

so I rooted my HTC hero yesterday using information from www.theunlockr.com. i decided to go with the super one click method, and i also installed a custom rom as well. the Hero is now fast as ever, and no more junk Sprintware. the only Sprintware left was the Navigation program.

did you guys noticed that the marketplace isn't the same anymore? i was trying to add ESPN sportscenter to it like I had on my unrooted Hero, and noticed i wasn't able to downloaded it anymore. do we not have access to all the programs anymore because our phones are rooted?

A rooted phone will still have access to all market apps plus rooted only applications;)

Once you are back to 2.1, then download Z4Root, and save it on your SD card, then download an app call app installer, that will allow you to install the Z4Root, once you have done that then let us know, we will guide you from there

I lost intrest in rooting after all my problems. however now im trying to catch back up to where i was. After i go back to 2.1 by using the RUU what do i do then?

Don. I thank you for all of the help you have provided. Im not dumb either. But like my phone has mental ******ation. i downloaded the RUU and did everything as you said; renamed it, put it on root, hold down volume button, and then it said operation aborted everytime. So then i just skipped that step cause i factory reset my phone and i downloaded z4root. I then put it on my sd card on the ROOT of it. I downloaded 2 different app installers, and it never shows up to be installed. NOTHING WORKS!!! a while back however i downloaded z4root of the market (when it was still on their) and when i factory reset my phone i saved it to the sd card so i wouldn't lose it. So i have z4 root downloaded of the market. Can we work with that?

Yes you can, but you still need to install the Z4Root app, so if the Z4Root is already on your SD card, simply go to the market and download the app called App Installer, then install that, then open that app and once open it will find all the APK's apps on your phone, once you see the Z4Root simply install it, report back
