I have spent a few weeks now with my hero and i have to ask - will we ever be happy?

The more i read on here and other places i see people asking for more. Better this, that, there and the other.

What has drawn me to ask this? The latest threadi have read asks if there is an app to give 3 different wallpapers .........

We are sat here with a phone that has more computing power than NASA when they landed men on the moon.

Here I am typing this on a virtual keyboard, listening to music and uploading photos to another site whist my pc sits next to me switched off.

I know that desire and wants are the life of progress and development, but surely we should spend more time focusing on important stuff than just can we have 3 wallpapers and other useless, pointless crap.?.?..?.?.?.?.?.?..?.?

Will now sit back, low in my seat with my flak jacket and tin hat.

well, consider just who it is that
a- has these devices
b- can spend time online entering their opinions about them

The "legitimate" critics have some professional interest in improving these things. It's great to have them in touch with other developers and users.

The "whiners" that live a life out of touch with the basic needs and realities of survival of 99% of the human race. What do you actually expect from them?

I whole heartedly agree! I'm still waiting for the phone with a coffee-maker.

How about a calendar app that lets you invite people to appointments? How about an alarm that works? (and yes - I have got the volume set and no, I don't run any Taks Killer) How about a "Home" button in the browser? How about being able to attach ANY file (instead of only a pic) in an email?

I agree that there are lots of things worth more time focussing on that three wallpapers, but there's a hell of a lot of the basics that need work on before being able to search by talking to your phone.

(I may need to share your flame-proofs)

Firstly, the tin hat and the flame proof pants are in the mail.

This is exactly what I mean. There are important parts of this OS that need work lab long before we pay someone 99c for an app that can show multiple wallpapers, or fart when we touch the screen.

I know the idea of Linux is open source and free, but I would gladly pay a bit for development that works. I am not criticising android. I chose this over a new BB. What is more important, looks or substance? Should it look good our just work?

I'm extremely happy with my Droid. As mentioned above, I can already type pretty good on it (I use the on screen keyboard the most). Of course there are things I desire, but I tend not to focus on those (OK, just one...Slingplayer please...heh)...

But seriously, when the majority of users come to any message board, they come when they have a problem, not when things are going well. They don't come to praise a product, they come to complain about it. It is human nature, and I suppose we just have to live with it...

That said, when forums are good (such as this one), users stick around to glean additional information, and wind up posting more than just complaint threads. I personally think we have a pretty great community here and compared to other forums I have been on, the whining really isn't all that bad...

Solid point. Some forums I've been to are straight up terrible when it comes to complainers.

Hell, no.

"More important stuff" is subjective anyway. I'm sure someone else could counter that we should be focusing on "more important stuff" such as feeding the hungry, getting the unemployed educated and working, etc etc.

If you don't care about the threads on cosmetic issues then why read them? They probably at least had descriptive subjects rather than "Please read everyone". :p

What are you doing to help resolve issues that are more important to you?

What is more important, looks or substance? Should it look good our just work?
Why do you think they have to be mutually exclusive? A developer can work on a cosmetic app and not prevent other developers from doing their work on your "important stuff".
