Root Getting an Incredible, worried about rooting

Since VZW is selling the the Incredible for $99 online, I was thinking of getting one as a second phone to my inferior LG Ally. Not that I don't like the Ally, but i'm kind of hard on phones at work and want to have a replacement handy in case I break one. Plus, it would be a nice upgrade and I can use one of them to play around with and one as my primary work phone. I will probably use the Incredible as my main phone eventually after I learn to root it and remove the bloatware, which leads to my question.

With the Ally, it was very easy to root using either Universal Androot or z4root. I have searched through this forum to see if there was an easy way to root the Incredible through an app like UA or z4root since i'm not an expert in linux, but have been unable to find one. It seems the only way to root may be a bit more involved than I may be capable of.

Is there a one-click solution to rooting the Incredible like I could with the Ally or will I need to take my chances with bricking it by doing a more involved procedure?

its not really complicated at all. all you do is download like 5 files, put your phone in USB debugging, open the unrEVOked application, and you have root. it should not take more then 10 minutes to do.

It's pretty straightforward. Couple notes, if you have a Mac, forget about all the driver loading, you can bypass it. Also on the posted vid, you'll see he's using an Evo...don't worry, it's the same deal for the Inc like the title says. Use the links underneath the vid to get the files. When he is scrolling through the menu in Clockwork, he's selecting items using the power button but on the Inc, you use the trackpad button to select an item in Clockwork, the power button returns you to the previous menu.

Almost 100% of problems with Inc rooting have to do with installing the driver which can be easily dealt with. Post if you have problems but as a former rooter, you're a shoe in.

Yeah, rooting is the only way to go especially with a Verizon device. They load so much crapware on the phone that you are almost forced to root. On my Ally, once I rooted it, I removed just about everything that came preinstalled other than what was needed to actually run the phone. It made my Ally run so much better. To be honest, that's the only reason I want to root the Incredible. While I did play with different ROMS on my Ally, ROMs weren't the reason I rooted. I wanted to get rid of all of Verizons junk. Same goes with the Incredible. I'm sure i'll get into flashing ROMs eventually with it, but for starters I want to 'clean it up', like I did the Ally.

yea man unrevoked made it SUPER hard, I had to plug my phone into my computer.. DAMN. that was tough.

To the other more helpful people, got it rooted with no issues. Thanks all for the help and information. Now it's on to removing all of the crapware that came preinstalled.

I wasn't being a smartass! I was simply implying that unrevoked has made is super duper easy to do. That's all. It is called sarcasm, no need for name calling now!

Also if you're a noob to rooting, that's no one's fault but your own, I did reading for a month and downloaded at least a GB of files before even dabbling into rooting my Eris and I suggest the same for anyone else. Just because unrevoked made it as easy as plugging in the phone, it still makse your phone sustainable to bad things. Just be careful and you will be alright! Best of luck, sorry to come off on the wrong foot.

Make sure to do a nand backup in recovery before doing anything else. You prolly know that already but just makin sure.

Yes I did because that's what the directions said to do. I was following those things to the letter because I was so afraid of screwing something up. If they had said, 'now run around your house naked', I would have done it.

And also on unrevoked's web page is a link to a copy of the S-On tool, which you will need to fully UNROOT if you should need to for any reason, such as swapping it under warranty.
