I gave my son a Samsung Moment for Christmas and before the day was though he dropped it and cracked the screen? The phone works fine.
What is the best way for me to get this screen fixed. Just call Sprint or take it back to Best Buy. Any idea what the cost is for that kind of a repair?

Call Sprint back up and tell them you want to add insurance to your plan because you heard these phones break easily on the Internet. Wait the 72 hour waiting period and file a claim. You have like 30 days to add insurance to the phone.

I did the same thing last year to my brand new Instinct. I broke the screen after 3 days and just added insurance and got it fixed. I think the deductible went up to $100 if I'm not mistaken on a PDA, but its still better than $500 for a new one.

I say teach the son a lesson about responsibility and make him pay for the repair. How old is he? My folks always expected me to take care of my stuff. If I broke it, I fixed it or paid out of my own pocket to fix it.

With regards to the repair, you'll probably have to talk to Sprint to get it fixed now, since spare parts may be in short supply elsewhere. It's most likely a LCD screen replacement.

The poster above me talks about using insurance, but that is out and out insurance fraud. If it doesn't bother your morals / ethics you can try that route. But for me I'd own up to my mistakes and take the right way to handle the effects of my actions.

Ahem... Sprint allows you to add insurance for up to 30 days after you purchase the phone. It's well within their guidelines to add it in the first week, and if it bothers you just keep it on the phone after the swap and you'll have paid them back in no time.

It's no different than adding it upon purchase in my eyes.

The screen is tough on this phone, there have been few if any broken/scratched/damaged screen posts here. Your son must be an overachiever! You can add insurance as suggested, I would considering how fast your son broke the phone. If you go into a repair center, they will swap it out for a charge that is way below what the repair would cost. It was $75 for the first "incident" a couple of years ago, but I'm sure it's way more now. I'd guess $25-$50 over the insurance deductible. You might want to call a center and inquire anonamosly about the cost. Be careful, once the incedent is reported in the system, you're SOL for adding insurance though you might still be able to add it to a replacement phone. Good luck!

Never mind, it seems like Best Buys protection plans have a lot of complaints against them.

Ive learned always get insurance on phones its worth the extra 7 dollars a month because if you sign a 2 year contract theres a descent chance within them 2 years somethings going 2 happen either its gonna break or get lost. I personally got sprint insurance but ive actually herd good things about best buy insurance but personally I got sprint witch uses Asurion so personally i don't actually no.

Just be aware of the new changes in the insurance for PDA's when you buy it. They are $100 deductible now and you can only do one replacement per year.

It sucks but I have kept it on the account anyway. My year is up now so at least if I break the moment I get another replacement a little cheaper...

BB is even worse IMO. The guy there told me that if I broke it I'd have to send the phone in for repair which could take up to 3 weeks. The other details were kind of moot at that point. I just went over to sprint and bought the phone from them.
