Root How to upgrade Huawei Ascend from 2.1 to 2.2???

I've tried everything! It shows they are backed up. I tried restoring them through 'batch' and it said the batch run was successful but they still don't show up on the screen and I can't get them to load from anywhere else.

In Tit B when I touch them and it opens up the little screen on them, it doesn't give me any kind of restore option.

Can you guys respond in the other thread? It kinda makes it hard to follow when its all over the place. See my posts toward the bottom.

Joser116, It is system apps that are affected.

Seems we need to alter the recommendations for removing Bloatware?

Like I said in the other post. People think they can just restore the system apps they un-installed but they can't.

Robb, we have another thread that is devoted completely to 'how to root your phone'. I'm going to ask a mod to merge some of these threads.

But what you said about not being able to restore the system apps isn't really accurate, even though I know you think it is. It's just not as simple as everyone thought it was in the beginning.

Don't worry...we will be modifying but we can't modify every thread about it that someone else decides to create! :(

I can re-install apps but just not system apps.

You people are jumping to the conclusion that you can't restore system apps without really knowing the proper way to go about it.

This is what's wrong. Titanium Backup has the features. All of a sudden everyone is going bananas cause they want to make sure they can restore their stock apps when 2.2 is out. The fact is that even if Titanium Backup didn't work (which it does it the proper steps are taken) there are other ways to restore them.

Robb, why do you want to re-install them right now? Open up your Titanium Backup and use the Dalvik Cache feature.

Are you wanting to unroot as well?

No I don't want to un-root. I have been messing with the program and noticed I can't restore the apps. I'm concerned for the 2.2 update but for $100 for the phone, not too worried.

I backed up 12 apps and then Un-installed them. I tried to do a batch re-install of all 12 and it re-installed only 1 of the 12.

Well, just because you can't do it doesn't mean it can't be done. There are several of us here who are researching why we are having probs.

Remember...the Ascend is still relatively new.

I'm going to ask the Mods to move the Step by Step Rooting Guide back to this Forum. We are still so new we need it HERE. Not in some other place where users can't even find it.

There are a lot of folks who $100 is still a lot of money to. We want to make sure we can help everyone and when we suggest how to root we also want to make sure that when the time comes to get the apps back that we will be able to help everyone and make it as simple as possible.

There isn't a doubt in my mind that we won't be able to achieve this. Even if it happened today.

I appreciate your help and concern here. I posted why it can't be done in the other thread. That came straight from the Wiki. The person that created the app said it can't be done. I'm not going to argue it. They know better then I do. I will continue to research the program and see if I can find a way.

Thanks for the help.

The person who created the APP (Titanium Backup) has never said it can't be done!

The person who edited the Wiki said it.

There is a big difference!

Here is some more information on Titanium Backup for you to read:

You win. I surrender. I will opt out of this discussion with you at this time.

I will however leave you with the final answer regarding backing up System apps and data and then uninstalling them and then trying to restore them.

This is the link to the OFFICIAL site for Titanium Backup:
Titanium Backup for Android ? Official Site
This site will link the below link. Calling it the official support site.

This is the link to the OFFICIAL sites OFFICIAL support site with the answer:
[Android 2.1 Eclair] Stock Apps Lost After Backup & Uninstall
See Post #2.

Titanium Backup does not backup a STSTEM APP it simply backs up the data. The only way to restore the app is to see the above link, post #2.

Thanks.

Thank you.

I'm just looking for the answer. I made the mistake by uninstalling my system apps without knowing better. I am responsible.

Robb

I understand Robb. Don't worry please. It isn't really your fault. The Ascend is still so new that we are all trying to find out how to help each other and ourselves. Especially since Cricket and MetroPCS Customer SVC is of no help whatsoever.

I bought my Ascend just a couple of days ago from Metro PCS and it came with 2.2 and now I have seen on the web where there will be a 2.3 soon.

If Huawei already made an Ascend with 2.2 then maybe we'll get it soon since there a working version. I know that that was Metro Pcs but afterall the phones are pretty much the same except different carrier bloatware.:)

just noticed on my metro ascend if I go to the software upgrade area it has a confirmed screen now but when i go to confirm it said the update package is not detected yet. i know the huawei has in the past sent updates to a link that had to be loaded on a SD memory card so i'm thinking thats how the 2.2 is going to show up that way and maybe soon by the looks of it
