Please post your favorite apps here.

This way we can possibly merge some of the other threads into this one so we can keep them all together.

Try to keep your list to say your five favorites. You might want to give a brief explanation of why next to the application.

Mine are:

GO Launcher EX
- changed my phone dramatically
GO SMS - Used to have Handcent but like this better
Power Amp - Great for music and also helps the inferior sound of the Ascend
Cache Mate - terrific for clearing your cache
Titanium Backup - Must have if you're rooted!

Hopefully you will all add your favorite apps here to help others.

:)

In no particular order,1)LAUNCHER PRO(many features,ease of use,very slick & responsive,2)LAUNCHER SWITCHER(quick access to multiple launchers,3)CPU BOOST(easy set-up,screen-on/screen off settings)4)PHANDROID(no explaination needed here)!,5(Tie),CACHE MATE & CACHE CLEANER(both help performance tremendously{automatic or manually,as desired} w/o interfering with the performance of other system/user apps like the "task manager/killers & battery savers" can).

I credit myself for being the first to announce the Vevo app as my favorite app.
1) Vevo-Free official app for official music videos. Nuff said.
2) Videotonez- Check it out. Set videos to play when someone calls you. The perfect app to show-off to your friends.
3) Lookout Free security and phone locator. What else can you ask for?
4) Squibble Easily the best game on Android. Even better than Angry Birds, plus, it runs smooth.

So I installed launcher pro, was not prepared for it to delete all my current shortcuts and the android clock with weather info...So my question is how do I get back that clock with weather info? Never knew i cared enough about it until I no longer had it, lol

Also, if Task Killer is bad and should not be used, what is a good app for killing tasks? I am constantly useing task killer to stop messenger (which always starts when I use Go SMS) youtube likes to start alot, browser (which I never use) and some others.

Seems like if i stop useing task killer those apps would just continue to run, eating battery.

One other thing, when I turn my phone on there are 8 things going
email
winamp
youtube
gmail
market
superuser
voice dialer
and advanced task killer

Usually i would just use task killer to close them all..if i got rid of task killer they would all continue running..so again i ask what is a better option?

Wow!! Lots of questions! LOL Okay...let's start with this one first. There is soooo much you can do with LauncherPro (LP). For starters: You can create 7 home screens, compared to only 3 with your stock launcher (Canvas). When you first start your phone and click on menu your Desktop will be the first to show up. Click on menu and select 'preferences'. Then select LP Widgets. If you want your weather widget with the clock, select it from the choices in LP. Click on the settings for the widget and format it the way you want it. Go ahead and experiment. You won't hurt it!!! LOL

Also, if you had this running on your stock launcher it is still there and it is still running in the background. This will slow up your performance. The solution to this is to open up Titanium Backup and touch Backup/Restore, then select 'Canvas' ...then 'backup' ....then click Canvas again....click 'Freeze'. You will see that there is an option to restore it whenever you want. This is the easiest way to stop it and it will be there in case you want it back.

LP will give you the option of creating however many screens (up to 7) that you want. When you select 7, then you scroll sideways and a new blank screen will appear. Just long press to add whatever app icons (shortcuts) you want. Do this with each screen. I have my facebook widget on one and on another I have my calendar. I have three screens of apps. If you take a look at the Step by Step Instructions for Rooting thread you will see screenshots I took of my phone with LP . It doesn't look the same now as I had done more customization.

Also, if Task Killer is bad and should not be used, what is a good app for killing tasks? I am constantly useing task killer to stop messenger (which always starts when I use Go SMS) youtube likes to start alot, browser (which I never use) and some others.

I don't use a task killer. I think when you freeze Canvas it will solve a lot of the probs you are describing.

Seems like if i stop using task killer those apps would just continue to run, eating battery.

Try what I suggested above and see if it helps you. Also, be sure to download a good Cache Cleaner: Cache Mate or Cache Cleaner NG
Clearing your cache is really important.

Go into each of the above apps and open. Then click on menu and uncheck 'start automatically' or whatever option it gives you. Look at the other settings and uncheck those that make it come on...eg: sign in automatically (for gtalk). There will be some apps that you see in your running processes that you need for everything to work correctly.

If you feel you need a task killer then keep it until you have everything running more smoothly.

Some apps will cause your programs to 'force close' more often. Try to see which of these apps is causing you probs and get rid of it if it isn't a stock app you need.

Hope this helps. Maybe someone else will come up with more info to help you!!!

First off, thanks Jazz.

When I click menu from home screen I do not get any LP Widgets option in the list.

Also, before LP I had 9 stock home screens, I read that shortening them down could reduce some lag, which is why I decided to try LP. I tried looking in options for all those programs to see if i could disable at startup but alas none had the option...so I guess I will just keep using it until I can figure it out.

I will try the freeze deal but I am doubtful it will solve it. I will prolly just go back to stock stuff cause for whatever reason I really miss the clock/weather gadget, lol

I just looked, I can't freeze stuff with the free version =P

Hmmm....I didn't realize you had to pay for the option to 'freeze'. IMO it is worth it!

As for LP....sorry to hear you are having probs. I have to tell you my experience with it. When I first got it I didn't like it AT ALL. In fact I couldn't stand it!

So I uninstalled the free and paid for versions. But then I kept reading all this stuff about how it helped performance and how you could customize it and blah blah blah. Soooo I tried it again.

This time I spent more time on the settings (admittedly it took me some time but not all that much...a couple of hours I guess at first). But I got it set up where I really liked it and I noticed a dramatic difference in the way my homescreens looked and also in the performance.

Then I d/loaded LauncherPro Icons and customized even further. You just have to experiment with this stuff.

(if you want to that is)

I can guarantee one thing:

Your stock launcher isn't anywhere near as good as LauncherPro, GO launcher or ADW launcher.

But you are the only one who can decide what you want and what you like.

So sorry I can't help you more, hon!!!

:)

Other than losing the weather clock it seems fine...

On the screen where you want the weather clock...long press a blank space. Then select the weather clock you want from the options it gives you.

You CAN have it back. I have mine! I choose the LP weather widget. It's the same one that came with the phone it appears.

There are lots of weather widgets free from the market.
